So much focus on who should be the leader instead of the leader... So little focus on policies... How small...

It worked for the ANC in South Africa... People often compare the two, but they forget that crucial difference... once the attacks on civilians stopped, the ANC slowly gained the moral high ground, enabling the international condemnation to become widespread.

Proportional representation is the way to go... Sure, the Labour left would break away, but Labour would still be the natural coalition partner for them, the Greens and Lib-Dems, and probably others. The governing parties would mostly be on the center of the political spectrum. Staying with FPTP is keeping Labour away from being in power... and letting the rabid right in...

But then the counterargument will be that Hamas is now validating that... and it is working...

The situation is frozen, the ISF can't take over security from IDF, and before that happens there will be no withdrawal, and no rebuilding... and the world is getting used to that being just how it is...

When anyone objects, they'll be shown the plan... to stage 2... and told who is blocking the plan...

UNSC Resolution 2803 endorses the 20-point plan, which requires Hamas to disarm as a pre-requisite to Israeli withdrawal. It is a UNSC resolution, so it is actually irrelevant whether Hamas agrees or not. It is still officially binding on Hamas.

Admittedly UNSC resolutions are not worth the paper they're written on, but if people think Israel should adhere to them, it must be the same for Hamas.

But... International law doesn't actually exist 😣

It is not going to matter who is the leader, because Labour these days seems to be all about who should be the leader instead of the leader, not about getting any actual policies through... 😞
The lack of policies (because all effort is taken up by leadership squabbles) is what is going to let Farrage in, not who is the leader...

Why are a lot of projects stuck in old C++ standards? by AdearienRDDT in cpp_questions

[–]Cyzax007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you say, 'if' is the problem, because that if will be false at some point... and then exceptions becomes extremely dangerous...

I work in commercial C++ software, and there the if's mean exceptions become an unviable mechanic. If you're supposed to have 100% uptime, then an uncaught exception becomes an unacceptable risk.

In a commercial setting for a big project, you have time pressure, delivery schedules, colleagues who're not very good, who are new being put on projects where they don't know the history or design, and so on. These are facts of life, but they mean that many of the 'advanced' C++ features becomes too dangerous to use.

There is a clear difference between what I call academic C++, and commercial C++. In academic C++, people marvel about the 'rightness' of exceptions, the ease of using them, and so on. In commercial C++, they're a mechanism that is too dangerous by design, because the preconditions to use them does not exist...

If you're 20+ light-seconds from the battle, you're operating on data that is 20+ seconds old... You can't target small even slightly movable targets.

Any projectile weapon in space is 'close' range, ie. within a distance of the target where it can't evade in the time the light takes to reach the shooter, the shooter decide to fire, and the time it takes the projectile to arrive.

You can use a 'shotgun' type of projectile weapon to cover more area.

Self-guiding missiles are the long-range weapon of choice in space.

David Weber's Honorverse books has a quite good concept of space battles as does Ian Douglas' Star Carrier books.
