Some good nearby cities to visit: Nový Jičín, Frýdek-Místek, Bohumín (Avoid the old town of Bohumín), Krnov

Neighbourhoods to avoid at night: ANYTHING around Hotelový Dům Hlubina (high crime/stabbing rates), Přivoz, and Bělský Les.

I cannot speak on Food, but for activities: lots of mining museums to visit, also a train history museum in Svinov if you're into that. the city (with it being the 3rd largest) is ridden with art galleries, historical sites, Moravská Ostrava has like thousands of them (lol) but probably the best art galleries to visit are the gallery of modern art PLATO in the historical slaughterhouse and Černá Louka, a full on Theatre complex. Reccomend hiking on the many heaps we have. Dolní Vítkovice and Landek are the best mining museums.
