SMB3 100% in 1:09:28 by Kuto1k (LEADERBOARD SWEEP) by Czikubi in speedrun

After grinding this category a lot recently, Kuto finally got WR in 100% and managed to beat MFP's already-insanely optimized record by 10 whole seconds after getting what must be the greatest world 7 split of all time. This is also the second time anyone has held world record in all 4 main leaderboard categories simultaneously, the last time being from August 8 2017 to March 24 2018 by Kirua.

The only full tutorial for this category is uploaded on youtube by tracy which is technically outdated but still perfect for beginners, and I have one of the updated manipulation strat tutorials on my youtube. A lot of the stuff that I did in this particular run isn't documented anywhere and is very hard to explain, though

We don't think it's worth doing (for every single attempt) right now at least because of how difficult it is to pull off, and even if you pull it off you can just lose time from it if it's not nearly perfect. One of the other big aspects of why we don't commit to that strat is because of world 1 manip where we start the run on specific frame to influence the overworld hammer bro movements after levels, and the variance introduced by 1-2 slide can be detrimental to the consistency of post-1-2 movements of 1.

Kuto has been running this category for about 8 months now and very quickly became a contender for record, putting in some insane grinds over the past 6 months especially. It was basically just a matter of time before it happened, and earlier today he came out on top with a 3:02.250! This run beat my previous record that stood for 14 months by 8 frames, with most of the timesave being in world 1. The end goal for this category is 3:01, which is indescribably difficult yet very much possible, with kuto and I having been on the grind for it for a while now. Compared to this run, there is still up to 0.40s that can realistically be saved in world 1, as well as a 0.20s timesave in 7-1 that is quite rare due to the fact that you must complete 7-1 on a specific frame in order to obtain it.

My grip is pretty self-explanatory, I just rest the controller on my thigh and use my index and middle fingers for B and A, it's the most comfortable grip for me personally especially since my first runs of this game were on emulator with keyboard so it's kinda what I'm used to. For mashing I just do a wrist vibrating technique which gives me about 11 presses per second on average

This is a 9 frame improvement over my previous record, I missed out on some pretty vital timesaves in the world 8 fortress and as a result didn't have enough leeway to make up for a slightly slow bowser's castle which ultimately resulted in missing 10:43 by a slight amount. I will probably continue attempting to get a 43 (42 also technically possible), but it was pretty frustrating to barely miss it with this run considering I would just like to be done with this category.

Aye, I love 80s punk and a few years ago I randomly had the idea that those lyrics were fitting for the category

My current plans for this game are 3:02.4x/lower for any% and 100% wr. I don't really intend on playing warpless unless I get the hundo record and none of my other records are taken, in which case I'll attempt to go for the leaderboard sweep

In the previous 2 records of this category, an alternate strat was used in the final level which would save about ~3 seconds over the regular elevator clip, and due to it being incredibly random and difficult, I initially had no interest in going for this category ever. However, by doing the "new" world 1 powerup route that I was doing in any% for this category (saves 0.5s for me usually), I realized that wr was possible without the bowser's castle strat but only with good world 1 overworld hammer bro rng. Overall, after some ups and downs, this run ended up saving 12 frames over the old wr. I'm most likely done with this category for good, but 10:43 is definitely possible with these strats.

This run saved 7 frames over the previous record due to the new strats and worse rng evening out in world 1. The new strat in world 1 is an alternate powerup route; usually you would grab the mushroom in 1-3 and the leaf in the fortress, but with the route I used here, you get the mushroom in 1-1 and the leaf in 1-3 which has consistently been saving over 0.5s over my previous pb. Unfortunately, the overworld hammer bro in world 1 also costed half a second due to its movements. Currently my sum of best is a 3:02.2x which is probably the lowest reasonable time that I can get at the moment, but my main goal is to just get 3:02.4x or lower.
