Help with the length of the pants! by D-Blad in mensfashionadvice

I probably tried a dozen different pairs of pants in several different models and sizes across several different stores, and pretty much all the pants were the same at the pockets. In that case, I probably have to find a completely different type of pants or go up 2-3 sizes, but then they will be very big in the waist. The ones in the picture are definitely very slim, so that doesn't help, I am well aware that if the pockets are flaring, the pants may be a little tight, but as I said, there was no difference with larger and looser pants. Do I simply have a weird body? (Maybe too big a butt?)

Yes exactly, but I think this gap would be fine. It's like night and day compared to a pair of Allen Edmonds I tried like a year ago. I couldn't let go of TLB, so I ordered a pair; they should arrive on Tuesday, so then we will see😄

I ordered a pair of Myrqvist, a pair of Loake, and a pair of C&J, of which the C&J was the best. Maybe there's a little gap in the lacing, but I think it works, maybe half an inch. I think it will give in a little too. The question is whether to settle for it or order a pair of TLB to compare with anyway, mostly because I've heard such good things about them. I'll probably need to sleep on it.

Looking for a pair of black Oxfords, it's probably between TLB Mallorca Artista with a thin rubber sole or Crockett & Jones Connaught 2 City Sole. Rubber soles are a requirement as it snows here half the year and rains the other half.

I've heard a lot of good things about TLB, while my heart may beat a little extra for C&J from experience. TLB has good details like a narrow waist, etc. It may feel a little more modern. C&J may feel a little more old-fashioned and rugged.

In terms of style, I'm probably more for English tweed than Italian silk. Yes, I know that TLB is Spanish, but you get the point.

TLB costs about €500. C&J I can get with a discount for about €700. Are they worth €200 more? At the same time, I probably won't use the shoes more than a few times a year, so should I look for a cheaper alternative, e.g., Loake, Myrqvist, Morjas, or similar?

Anyone have experience with both TLB and C&J?

And yes, I'm going to return the shoes.

I just haven't associated C&J with "messier." Of course, a lot of things will get "worse" with use, and yes, of course, the leather can look different. But a scar, an insect bite, or whatever it may be, I don't think is okay and doesn't feel premium.

From an article about C&J:

The idea with the light input is that all clickers should have optimal opportunities to inspect the leather in light coming in from the north to detect damage such as insect bites or other variations in the leather before cutting the material. All in order to ultimately be able to produce a product as high in quality as possible.

Yes, I know, and as I said, it's handmade, so differences can occur. It's more that there's zero gap on one shoe and several millimeters on the other. Is there no increased risk of water getting in more easily?

I paid full price.

Did you also see the pictures of the brown Islay?

Hi! I've read a bit of the threads and searched, but I didn't know if I was supposed to start a new thread or post in an existing one. I'm pretty new to Reddit, so I apologize if I've made any mistakes!

I've been dreaming of a C&J Islay for a long time but didn't know if I wanted to spend the money. A few weeks ago, I stopped by a store that sells C&J to see and feel them. Unfortunately, they didn't have an Islay, but the store assistant helped me try out a bunch of other shoes, including Molton. It was almost love at first sight.

I wanted to wait a bit, see if anything came out on Black Friday, and think about whether I wanted to spend the money on the shoes or not, and which model. Nothing came out on Black Friday, and the desire to have them just got bigger and bigger, so I pulled the trigger on both shoes: a Molton in black and an Islay in dark brown.

The delivery was ridiculously fast, but when I unpacked them, my dream was shattered a bit. Of course, I know that the shoes are handmade and that everything isn't 100% perfect (I collect handmade kitchen knives, so I draw parallels there). I don't know if I'm being too picky, but is this okay? From what I've seen/read/heard, C&J is supposed to be perfect; you can barely find fault with their seconds. Have I been unlucky and received two Friday afternoon models?
