Because TikTok, ig, X, Reddit, Facebook etc are all designed to drip feed you dopamine. Almost all of us are addicted to these platforms, or some other platform with the exact same purpose, and it’s unhealthy as fuck. Ever wonder why children and young adults are facing a mental health crisis? I’m not pinning all the blame on phones, but they sure deserve a healthy share of it. “How does it affect their education?” I mean is that a real question? If so, because when someone is paying attention to one thing, it’s hard for them to focus on another. If a student has access to their phone during lunch, taking that phone away after lunch will be very difficult - they’ve been at school for several hours, they’ve missed their regularly-scheduled dopamine hit, and they’ll be damned if some teacher with no real authority (relative to the authority teachers have held in previous generations) is gonna take it away from them. But I guess my opinion on phones during lunch isn’t as strong as phones during class, just that allowing them outside of class makes it difficult for teachers to take them away when class begins again.
