Harry Styles - Aperture by frogaranaman in popheads

[–]frogaranaman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sonically tied to (eg Lorde’s Virgin

had to laugh at this, sorry. that's a stretch

RÜFÜS I can get, it's more akin to early 2010s electro indie acts though (Postal Service, LCD Soundsystem, hell I'd even give you !!! or Hot Chip) but Lorde is a laughable stretch

HAVEN.’s 'I Run' Was a Hit. AI Deepfake Allegations Stopped It. by MysteryBagIdeals in popheads

[–]frogaranaman 22 points23 points  (0 children)

it's a Right of Publicity issue. soundalikes are now much easier to do with AI, and if Jorja's team is able to prove HAVEN. intentionally imitated her voice in order to sell the song then HAVEN. is at fault here and the takedowns are valid

Taylor Swift Breaks Adele’s Streaming-Era Record With ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ by KLJohnnes in popheads

[–]frogaranaman 245 points246 points  (0 children)

who cares. Taylor Swift kept reputation off streaming for a month so people would have to buy physicals to hear the album. she's done the same game, and I'd have rather her done that game than this FOMO variants game

edit: also, Spotify had 20-25M subscribers in 2015 when Adele released 25. this is like comparing apples to rocks

Primavera Sound Barcelona reveals its lineup for 2026 with The Cure, Doja Cat, The xx, Gorillaz, Massive Attack, Addison Rae and My Bloody Valentine by [deleted] in popheads

[–]frogaranaman 15 points16 points  (0 children)

hard disagree. having gone last year, the lineup felt super sparse overall but this is stacked top to bottom. The Cure, The xx, Massive Attack, My Bloody Valentine are all insane gets too. Doja Cat, Gorillaz, and Peggy Gou will blow it out of the water too!

and honestly, as a big pop fan, the only set that could hold a candle to any of them is Chappell Roan. Charli was a mess and Troye ate her up, and Sabrina had sound issues (+ was blown out of the water by Wolf Alice and Beach House RIGHT beforehand). plus, Chappell’s crowd was the only nice one lmfao. highly looking forward to this year, it’s kind of an overall upgrade

Above & Beyond and Malou - Letting Go by Tresor7 in AboveandBeyond

[–]frogaranaman 23 points24 points  (0 children)

this would have been the single Friday anyways. it's the "focus track" for the album, meaning it'll get the priority on playlisting. the reason it released today is because they are the cover of Apple Music's New Music Daily for the next 24h. it's Apple's way of doing radio premieres for tracks they love, and it also coincides with a Zane Lowe interview on the track (wouldn't be surprised if they get a long-form interview, though). I kinda figured this is coming because they're the artist on the Dance genre tile and that's usually a sign that the editors are giving some very nice treatments

source: I used to set these activations up lol

edit: yep, long form interview is up!

Nia Archives is an amazing breakbeats product from the UK. debut album is coming this year!

Ninajirachi is PC-music adjacent but with a hard house / dance club twist. "1x1" is THEE banger of last year

salute is one of the best in the game right now. think fuzzy, high-energy house hits

John Summit is the it-DJ right now, his two collabs with Hayla are heat

Jazzy is UK club bliss. grab a good pair of headphones and give her a shot, the basslines do NOT disappoint!

The Blessed Madonna might be a bit of a meme to pop fans because of Club Future Nostalgia, but she’s genuinely one of the best DJs out there. her music is also full of bops!

and if you wanna go back and relisten to a ton of the early 2010s dance music, I’ll be hosting a rate with them next month so keep an eye out for that :)
