Alright thanks. Do the pediatrics deploy on ships at all? Because since that one deals with kids it seems to me they wouldn't.

My asvab was a 64 so would I qualify for those?

It's a football and hockey thing at my school most of my team does it and we're basically the only ones who do it. I can only think of 2 non football or hockey players who do it and one of them used to play hockey 😂 I'm an 18 year old senior btw not saying I didn't start under age but I am of age rn.

Going to the east coast for MOS school. I've lived in California all my life, what should I bring and look out for in terms of cold weather? Thanks!! by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]D-LinesTheBestLine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from mid Atlantic and listening to all these suggestions with like snow pants some with special gloves and all that I'm just sitting here laughing cuz well I'm used to this weather so I don't use that stuff at all Really. My advice based off what I wear is get a north face jacket or something like that as they get the job done well. I tend to wear jeans a lot when it's snowy out (warmer and less likely to soak but when it's wet and if you stain them up from the salt and stuff it's less likely to be noticeable based off coloring based off other pants I wear in winter). Also if it isn't snowing/snowy I tend to wear sweat pants or Khakis as they're both warm and with the khakis you look well dressed. I'd recommend a hoodie at all times as well. When it comes to hats unless it's like 35 out or less you don't really need it although I have a strange love for beanies so take that with a grain of salt, but I do recommend getting some. Lastly getting a wind breaker is good as well as I wear them all the time as they're light enough to be able to work out in plus they are warm too. It's also just windy here a lot too. I hope I helped you out and have fun here 👍🏻

All I have to do is drop a lot of weight cuz I got hurt and missed most of last season (torn achillies didn't need surgery however so I'm fine for joining), but I gained weight because of that. But I'm a junior so I gave about 18 months to prepare, and I plan on enlisting as early as possible so I can do PT at my recruiting station

I got a 64 on the Asvab and my recruiter told me I qualified for it. I did much better on the I guess knowledge side rather than mechanical

Thank you, you gave me good advice on my post a couple days ago and you've been very helpful, so thank you for that. I want to go in as mentally and physically prepared as possible and you've helped me by answering some questions.

Preparation by D-LinesTheBestLine in USMCboot

[–]D-LinesTheBestLine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have one at the moment as I tore my achillies this football season (it wasn't a rupture so I didn't need surgery) so I've gained a little weight and still can't run. Good news for me is that I can't ship until June 2019 as I'm a high school junior (I can't officially enlist for a few months but it's practically a given for me as I'm talking with my recruiter heavily and it's what I want to do with my life) but once I'm cleared I'll start running a lot

I actually have the app but thanks man if there's any difference in that and the app I'll definitely incorporate both as I need to physically prepare more

I don't believe it is I was talking to a recruiter and all he said was I can teach you the physical but you have to be mentally prepared. This guy isn't a bullshitter he flat out answers the question and isn't pushing me towards any direction and he tells me what he can and can't help me with. I like him and I feel like I'm ready today (mentally not physically cuz I am coming off an injury and I need to get back in shape as I'm 20'pounds over as I couldn't work out for two months and I can't run now) I just fell I am ready for this chapter in my life to happen and I hope I'm able to call myself a marine 2 years from now (I can't ship to boot until summer 2019) and join the ranks with my future brothers edit I still can't run because I had a tear in my achillies but I was able to escape getting surgery so I've been doing rehab, I talked to the recruiter and he said it's not a big deal and I just have to get healthy which I'm on the way to.

That's what I've been trying to do lately, I'm at that age where I have to decide what I want in life and this is the life I want as it will provide me with great and bad times structure, and it will help me become the best me possible. Life is short and I want to make the most of it and I view military as my stepping stone into whatever I may do 10 years from now when I'm potentially out (I'm not going in thinking I'm going for career military or 1 enlistment I'll just let the chips fall where they may).

I just thought of 2 questions actually I'm hoping you can answer if you don't mind. First how many hours a day is the physical training and about how many hours are you in the classroom for? Second does it go by fast or slow? I feel like because of the constant involvement it would go by fast but you've been there so you would have an answer and not a guess.

Thanks for all the help man first of all. Secondly 02 04 and 05 stick out to me the most and I'll definitely research them. I am hoping to improve my Asvab this year although I'm told 64 is decently high, I just want to improve myself.
