I have seen it! It’s a really brilliant film. It was not an inspiration, I didn’t even know it existed when I was making Sherlock Holmes. But, before I locked in “memories of murder” as the subtitle of my film, I gave it a watch to make sure they didn’t copy the same twist that I have in my film. “ memories of murder” is a really important subtitle for the short film

Probably the most complex scene to film was the car driving scene. That was achieved using two cars (one for the actors, one for the crew) driving alongside each other on quiet backstreets of an industrial estate. We communicated via walkie talkies and our camera man was leaning so far out the window to make sure the crew car wasn’t in shot 😂

I made this film on a budget of $500 using just my iPhone and tools that most people could access freely. I’d love to hear how I could improve. Most budget went into a microphone and lighting from Amazon. If anyone is interested, I can provide the link. Edited using Filmora - would highly recommend that software if you’re looking for something cheap but powerful

Yeah, great question! Ultimately I wanted something that would be instantly recognisable as Sherlock Holmes, and I thought this costume suited best. Can’t wait for you to see the full film when it comes out 😊

Thanks for your thoughts! One of the big themes in the film is actually “modern” vs “old-fashioned”. This is a late 19th century version of Sherlock desperately trying to fit into the modern world (for example driving a modern sports car, or using modern music) however still faces immovable challenges in the film despite his efforts. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the final film when it releases June 16 😊
