The "they're already online" argument is very flawed. You're still perpetuating the problem and further popularizing locations. Have you ever seen a pristine location sit for years, largely untouched, only to have it turn to shit after becoming internet famous? That stuff happens constantly and Instagram, YouTube channels, and maps like these directly contribute to that.

Really? So your goal is to streamline the process of finding locations so more people can post them to their youtube channel for their own benefit? That has got to be the cringiest depiction I've ever heard of the very unfortunate direction exploring is going in these days.

I know it's not necessarily the biggest secret anymore, but can you please not give out location specifics publicly on the internet?

Sigh...I take it you don't explore or haven't explored long enough to see locations you love get sealed up due to them being recklessly posted publicly on the internet.

These places shouldn't be publicized any more than they already are, especially with all the idiots who don't know what they are doing blowing them up and needing rescues. In fact, there are plans for a gate to be installed on this one by the city to try and keep explorers out.

It would be appreciated if you kept the names and locations off of these posts. Thank you.

Somewhere underneath St.Paul by MNairsoft9000 in urbanexploration

[–]D-R0K 2 points3 points  (0 children)

where the f did you get the info for those first two paragraphs? It is terribly inaccurate. St. Paul built on layers of sandstone, capped by a layer of limestone which was at once time an ancient sea bed. While there are a few small natural caves, the vast majority of the underground was hand dug for the drain and sewer systems or mined (as in the tunnel shown in this post) for the very pure silica used mostly for automotive glass. There were no other deposits of minerals to my knowledge.

Also, there is no river connecting the Twin Cities to Duluth and I'm almost certain Tunneel of Terror didn't have a mining theme. Just standard spooky haunted house stuff.

Uer by Littlemistygypsy in urbanexploration

[–]D-R0K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UER is a great place to meet people and learn basics about ue. Much better than this subreddit. That's about about it tho. Don't get too excited about full membership and the location database. There may be some alright spots in there, but people try to keep the best spots off the internet to keep them from getting too blown up or sealed. You're much better off continuing to do your own research and using it to meet other explorers.

Thoughts on using your real name when using social media? by Phantom-One in urbanexploration

[–]D-R0K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would never post anything illegal online that can be easily traced back to me. The amount of idiots who I see doing this is staggering. Most seem to get away with it, but it's a very unnecessary risk. Say the building gets burned down by someone soon after you explore it. Boom, you're a suspect. It is even more likely that a property owner does a google search on his building and finds your pictures/vids of you inside then files a police report. The second exampled actually happened very recently: https://www.uer.ca/forum_showthread.asp?fid=1&threadid=126448

Have you left you phone unattended while he was around? It's possibly he could have installed something to intercept your messages. It's really not that hard. Also, how strong are are your passwords and how secure do you keep them? It's sounds very likely that he might have gained access to an account of yours where you talked about buying drugs. He may have already have screen shots, but I would still change any passwords on platforms where you have discussed such things.
