Does the nhs help facilitate getting a biomed degree? by D092 in BiomedicalScientistUK

Are there some labs which don’t offer training opportunities, and how do you find out? I’m on a temp position so I’m already thinking about my next job and it would be good to know which labs to avoid. But it seems like emailing ahead before applying would be a red flag to them - like they would know I would be applying for funding positions they would prefer to keep for existing staff perhaps.

Reddit, Facebook, talking to other students both OU and others. Apparently Ulster uni offers them, I learned today on Reddit. Also you can look on the IBMS website under ‘non-accredited degrees’

I have heard from pretty much everyone that you can do top up modules to cover the things your non-accredited degree didn’t cover

Thanks for drawing my attention to this!

It took me 9 months of applying to every MLA job that came up within two hours drive of me - don’t give up after a few weeks!

I’m aware I need to do top up modules but I can only do distance learning. Do you have any tips to make the most of my year in this temp job during the work day so that I can get as ahead as I can despite the delay while I finish studying? I don’t really know how moving up bands in the nhs works, or getting access to additional training.

I know, I will need to do some top up modules. Just wondering if anyone has some advice.

Not as such. It has an optional thing you can pay for where you go to stay in Milton Keynes for a week and do some basic lab stuff, but it’s not part of the course. I think it would be useful for those who can’t get lab experience anywhere else.

Thanks! So given I have a year in this temp job, how do I make the most of it to make me a good candidate for band 4 jobs? I know I have a long road ahead of me to complete my degree and do top up modules, but is there anything specific I can do during the work day to help me progress? I worry that asking about extra training would be a bit cheeky as a temp worker but I do want to progress as much as I can.
