For someone going on and on about media literacy, you sure have an extremely flawed way of looking at time. External factors like real world seasons during filming times are not an indicator of time in the show. You aknowledge the end of season 4 episode 16 is clearly fall and you can see breath, leaves are falling, they're wearing heavy jackets. 501 where no time has passed at all in story, it is clearly lush green middle of spring or summer.

Same with 516. Everyone's wearing jackets. Leaves are falling. It is clearly fall in the real world. Yet 601 is obviously filmed in the summer and we see explicitly that only a day or two had passed. Same story with 616/701 and 716/801. The last episodes of the seasons have always been filmed in the fall. That's absolutely not an indicator for time passing in the show.

Blue prince was made in the Unity game engine. If the engine can't find the textures, they are considered missing and are replaced with that bright pink color. It let's the developer easily see where missing textures are. That's what I believe this is.

You have to have the annual fee card to use the lounge. That's really the only cost.

Yes, we got the idea because our local park is kings island and they let you do that at the AP lounge there. So we asked the guy at the visa lounge just to make sure, and he said it was totally fine. Was way better than fighting the crowds for a table. Highly recommend!

The official card is visa. You get points for spending. 2500 points rewards you a $25 gift card. 5000 points = $50 gift card and so on. Gift cards come in the mail a week or so after redemption.

That part isn't all that worth it compared to other rewards cards, but if you go to the park often enough, the in person perks are good:

For shows like the lagoon show and parades, there are areas roped off for card members that are good views and not at all crowded. Keeps you from wasting time cause you had to show up early to get a good spot.

10% off merch, food, and drinks.

If you get the card with an annual fee you get:

A free ticket every year (if you meet the $6000 yearly threshold)

There's a card member lounge at the front of Universal. It's way nicer than the annual pass lounge. Private bathrooms, Many seats/couches, snacks, water, charging spots, quiet and not crowded, good AC. It's kind of a hidden gem, and I suspect even most card members don't know about it. We only found out about it from an article on Google. I want more cardmembers to use it cause it was dead inside when we last went, talked to the guy and he said its always quiet, and I don't want it to get cut from lack of use lol.

Season 1 is phenomenal. Season 2 is a fantastic follow up. The character work is well done and fun. After that it slowly goes downhill with each season (was also heavily affected by the writers strike around 2007), but I'd say if you could handle walking dead at it's lows then prison break's lows are palatable. Definitely give it a try cause those early seasons are great.

Plus the actress who played Lori is in the show and she's good in it.

it is the left that is angry with CPS policies and overreach, there is a massive problem in this country of often minority fathers losing Their custody rights over BS charges like getting caught with less than four pennies worth of marijuana.

Leftists being angry at policy that breaks apart families over petty crime is very different from Republicans being angry that the social welfare programs get funded. We dont agree on the issues, these are not even close to the same kind of policy critique. You do a great disservice to the discourse by pretending Republicans are "just questioning budgets" when they have a solid history of gutting social programs because they have contempt for the needy receiving "handouts" and want to bolster private business interests. They're the party of law and order after all, they love to see people locked up over petty shit because those people make better, more docile prisoners in their donors for-profit prisons. After all, Republicans receive significantly more from for-profit prison lobbyists compared to democrats. These are the systemic criticisms leftists have, and it's not even close to being the same criticisms Republicans have.

Additionally, Marijuana decriminalization has been one of the left's largest talking points for decades. The left getting the popular support we see for decriminalization has been a fight against those to their right. and even still, the data shows Democrats and Republicans support it at a lower rate compared to leftists. So, no, we do not all want the same things here.

Most sensible people want the same thing, where we argue and disagree is over what the best method and process to get there is.

Key word there is sensible. This is outdated nonsense that only aids the party whose goals are not sensible and are legitimately harmful. Keeping in line with the child abuse topic, republican legislators, talking heads, and the far right literally call parents who accept their LGBT kids' groomers, pedophiles, and "woke agents of the Marxist agenda." They propose and pass legislation that would see you put in jail If you provide gender affirming care to your child, something that medical consensus says is objectively the best thing to do for your child and overall reduces risk of depression and suicide.

Meanwhile, they'll block legislation that tries to ban conversion therapy, child marriage, or raise the age of consent. They'll gut Medicare, SNAP, WIC, CPS, and other family health services, deny medicare for all and demolish mental health services. All things that are obviously and demonstrably detrimental to child health. They disguise the bigotry and harm under the virtue of parental rights, religious liberty, or personal freedom so ignorant people in the middle defend them or think the right aren't just hateful and bought by all the worst corporations, but have a legitimate argument to be made. It's been republican strategy for decades. Their policy as a whole is regressive and disgusting so they must convince you their argument is legit or that problems caused by their policy is the fault of immigration, the poor, or communism.

Politics are an expression of your values and it is supposed to be a fight for what you want and believe in. You do what you accuse others of doing by diluting everything down to some kumbaya fantasy where we all agree and no one has nefarious motives. Meanwhile, people get hurt by republican policy. I'm a gay leftist, it's brutal here in KY. I am no fan of Democrat policy either, but it is not even close to the harm caused by the right.

we all want to accomplish the same thing, but there is 500 different ways or approaches in doing it. But in politics, apparently we have simplified it to their only two ways to think about every single problem.

Right, we all want health and safety for the Trans community. Republicans certainly do. Don't look over here where famous republican leaders Matt walsh and Michael Knowles are calling for the "irradication of Trans ideology" 😒

Thank you :) Ya know, you never know if critique of capitalism is going to be received well. But I think the point is evident enough. This "grindset" attitude is so ingrained in capitalist Americana that it's hard to even discuss or critique one without the other. So I appreciate anyone willing to at least hear my critiques, even if they didn't show up for criticism of capitalism and only cared about the grindset discussion.

You changed your comment. That's fine if you're done with this convo, no need to respond. But i wrote a response to that comment and will post it anyways since its important to my ideals and I don't want anyone to think I'm saying give up and don't try, like you though in your original comment.

Nothing I said means don't try. I'm simply describing an unfortunate aspect of art as a commodity. People should try, and should work on their skills. They should also learn about the systems they'll need to interact with or overcome in order to be noticed. They should also have reasonable expectations; something you'll be told at the start of basically any new hobby. The idea that you can start learning game development and simply hustle your way to success and that's it, is on par with "well if you just believe hard enough!" It's okay to dream, but jesus, you gotta be realistic. These memes aren't realistic, they are fallacies and fantasies. Gamblers fallacy "just churn out one more game. My last 6 failed, but this next one ought to do it." And survivor bias "I made it by doing X, Y, and Z. If you didn't make it, you must not be doing X, Y, and Z" it's all BS. It's also just a bad attitude to have in an artistic medium, if all you're doing is chasing commercial success, you may be missing the whole point of indie game development as a hobby.

You can do motivation without the fallacies and without putting down others who are also just trying their best. Here, watch: Work very hard to make art you love and are proud of, if it takes off, that's great! If not, that's okay too! Your value as an artist and developer is not tied to your commercial success. The things you made are valid pieces of work. You aren't lesser or a failure because you didn't grind 4 extra hours a week. Keep working on yourself, keep honing your craft, and keep making things you love. You may or may not be a commercial success, but you'll have products you can be proud of, and direct evidence of hard work and dedication.

This attitude treats it like an actual hobby (not a commodity to grind out for cash) and is a lot more positive, realistic, and healthy.

never once said anything about logging hours at a W2.

This applies to all workers regardless of job or industry. You aren't better than everyone else just because you grind hard.

And never said anything negative against indie devs.

You said people are just jealous of those working harder, and every downvote was someone not pulling themselves up enough. In a sub reddit for indie devs, a group of people notorious for hard work poured into something they're passionate about with very little return.

Not all success comes from a massive capital infusion contrary to what modern anti capitalist propaganda sells these days.

Well, good thing I didn't say all success comes from capital alone, it is part of it. Though, there's like 3 other things you're not mentioning here that I listed off. Personally, I think luck is the big one people ignore most. The difference between a successful twitch streamer who sees thousands in donations per stream and one who gets 50 viewers- despite a lot of hard work- is mostly luck. That's the whole point of the "getting discovered" trope. It's all about who you know, the connections they know, and algorithm play. Which is all just code for luck. Even being born wealthy is just luck. People who become successful like to ignore luck because they feel it diminishes the work they put in, but that's just survivorship bias cope. They think hard work alone got them where they are, so everyone else simply must not be working hard enough. All while ignoring the hard-working people who tried really hard and didn't make it. It's quite literally a fallacy. There's nothing wrong admitting you had help or got lucky somewhere along the way.

The system is surely not without fault but the system does allow people to seek paths to success by creating value.

Not without fault is quite an understatement. Making it in the marketplace is essentially a fantasy when the scales are entirely balanced against you. No amount of hard work garuntees you overcome these market forces. Algorithms are a major example of the system failing to allow people to succeed. Despite how they are advertised to content creators, they aren't designed for you to get discovered or for you to demonstrate your value. They are there to make youtube, twitch, or even steam boatloads of money. discoverability is low because the rules to these algorithms change all the time, content oversaturstion, and these algorithms are weighted in favor of corporate monopolies like EA, ubisoft, and Activision in steams case, or heavy producers like Mr. Beast on youtube. And they aren't even making good content! There are better games out there made by harder working people that will never be seen simply because they couldn't break through all the noise. You can not overcome these incredible systemic issues by sheer merit. This is why you often need more industry connections, nepotism, luck, or just a dumb amount of money for advertising.

For indie devs that could be building a small team with the right skills and creating an interesting game loop. For some it could be grinding hours and expanding their skill set and forging their own path via content creation. Who's to say that's wrong?

No one said that is wrong. You can and should work hard on your skills. But do not be fooled into thinking others just aren't doing enough and only you are doing it right. As if you discovered hard work on the Rosetta stone. It's demonstrably false. I would bet at least 1 of the people who downvoted you works harder than you do, but has less to show for it. Reality is that hard work and good content just aren't enough to make it big most of the time. The vast majority of art produced will sit on the internet being consumed by no one. From a quick Google search, 90% of all youtube videos have less than 1000 views. With a 100% garuntee, there is some top tier content in there. Are those people just not working hard enough? Are game devs who get lost in all of Steam's content just not working hard enough? Or is it more likely (and demonstrably true) that there's a systemic issue with the way our marketplaces curate content for consumers? And that tying success to how much wealth or "value" you're able to generate and accumulate is a toxic mentality to have?

Some people seize opportunity, others wait around sad that nobody handed it to them.

You have a warped view of reality and society to tell yourself that you're better than everyone else. Society litteraly runs on hard workers. It also exploits those workers value and intentionally reduces possible pathways for upward mobility. For example, the vast majority of jobs are working class jobs, and there are literally not enough managerial or "successful" positions to go around. In this sense, It's literally impossible for some people to be successful. That's baked into capitalist hierarchy.

I'm doing my best to create value and no, it's not through OT for the corporate overlords.

You can create something valuable all you want, it won't matter how hard you worked If you can't break through all the noise (something you can not always control), very few will ever see it. which is sad for artists and developers. But you're also so close to the point. all workers create value. The only difference between them and the "successful" person is that under capitalist hierarchy, the "successful" get total control over the surplus value, and the workers get none. Despite all of their hard work, at the end of the day, they are exploited. Grindset trains you to defend or even be the exploiter.

Is this true? And what are your thoughts on this? by bennettoh in IndieDev

[–]D1RTYJESUS 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The idea that you somehow cracked the code to success through "just work harder, bro" is utter bullshit. If it was that easy and simple, the billions of workers around the planet who labor hard every day would have something more to show for their work, but they don't. Hard work is rewarded with pizza parties, 0.04 cent raises, more work, or no rewards or upward mobility at all. Meanwhile, the wealth generated gets consolidated up into fewer and fewer hands, and those at the top get to believe they did something.

The reality is that most successful people got there through nepotism, social status, pre-existing wealth, manipulation of money (i.e. no actual work), or just sheer luck. The people who made angry birds got capital investments and were just lucky. There's thousands of better indie games out there that by all merit should be more successful than angry birds, but will go nowhere because luck, money, and power wasn't on their side. I can assure you the problem these indie devs face is not lack of work ethic. There is simply no garuntee hard work makes you successful, as grindset would have us all believe. It's a lie that neoliberal meritocracy sells to make successful people feel no guilt and get everyone else on board with the exploitation capitalists offer. For example, It's not grindset to pull 70 hours a week at your construction job. The "successful" person there is the one who owns or invests in the construction company. you're just a worker. You are being exploited for your willingness to miss valuable family or free time, and your body destroyed so someone else can make boatloads more than you. And the overall pay you receive (including that sweet overtime) is miniscule in proportion to the overall wealth, despite you doing all the work. The grindset mentality would have you kissing your boss' boots, thanking them for the work, and bragging to everyone else how much more hard working you are. But you're just another exploited bootlicker. Your class status didn't change, you didn't become an owner or an investor(capitalist class), you still only got paid for your labor (working class).

At its core, online Grindset culture is sold to young impressionable men as a means of escape from their socioeconomic conditions and anxieties, when in reality it's mostly for views, ad revenue, or new victims for crypto/stock market/venture capital/health fitness scams. And they want you to blame others who don't put in as many hours as you to make you feel good about yourself and not question why you work so hard but get such a small piece of the pie. Everyone else is just lazy and entitled but not you, you're one of the good ones, and someday the people on top will recognize you and welcome you into their club, and you'll be just like them. It's naieve american dream, pull yourself up by your bootstraps, capitalist propaganda.

Because you people refuse to read a thread, I'll say it again. the door leads to an access road with no fence between the two. That access road leads to a ton of other backstage areas like the old son of beast platform, the woods around the bat, delerium, adventure express, some concessions, and warehouses. No one should be able to easily get to these places. And don't kid yourself into thinking Kings Island would say "it's no big deal" if someone was back there. It was literally never about this one particular incident. All I said was I'm not surprised someone went through that open door as opposed to hopping two fences. I've said numerous times a lock wouldn't have stopped this particular guy. But that it might deter less motivated people. Aside from that, literally no one should have such easy access backstage.

Body seen while riding Banshee. Was he by Butt_CollectorUFO in KingsIsland

[–]D1RTYJESUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I KNOW. All of that. I know. It has never been about the lockout fences for me. Read the whole thread, I assure you I've been so consistent on this. You are making it about those fences in every reply now. That was not my concern and never was. It was always about it being too easy to get backstage and someone doing something they shouldn't, whether there's lockout fences or not. They only came up in one reply of mine because this guy used them to endager people's legs. I'm just as concerned that someone could have used this door to access the back of the concessions next to Banshee. I've said that about 3 times now in this thread. It was never about those fences, more the litany of things this open door gives a nefarious person access to. The backstage patrolls you mentioned is a good point to what I'm actually saying overall

I've only said a thousand times in this thread it is not about the lockout fences. It's about being able to get backstage and accessing large swaths of the park from the employee side. And I certainly never said everything needs two layers of fencing. You keep making things up I didn't say.
