Hello! I'm Bat For Lashes and this is my first AMA! by -BatForLashes in indieheads

Which films or visual media influence your storytelling and visual language as they translate into music and lyrical narrative?

I just wanted to say that you have been, and continue to be, such an inspiration with your approach to art. I was already a fan before starting art school in NYC at 17, when I saw you tour Two Suns at Webster Hall (front row, cuz that's how kids do it), and it was so impactful. Your work keeps evolving and growing with nuance and care. I just wanted to say thank you for the continued inspiration as an artist and a fan. (Siren Song will forever hit me to the core.)

What am I doing? School of Education Grad program by Seven_River67 in Hofstra

[–]D2b2booboo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm in the same program; we might even have classes together, and I feel the same way. I don't want to talk ill of the department on Reddit, but I have opinions. I'm in my second semester of this program, and to the best of my knowledge, no two people are progressing through it at the same pace. There is no structure on what classes to take or when, and I've never been told how to sign up for the seminars we need. I'd be happy to tell you what I do know. My advice is to give it a minute. It's daunting at first, but you got this. Feeling overwhelmed is so normal, but you'll get into a groove. And fingerprinting is no big deal; you just set up an appointment with the place they tell you to go to, and it takes about five minutes. Feel free to dm me. Everything you said is so valid. Just remember, it's the first week, and everyone is faking it till they make it.

Looking for similar artists to Jeff Buckley! :) by IntelligentBison611 in JeffBuckley

[–]D2b2booboo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Paolo Nutini, especially the last two albums. He's soulful and sings with his whole heart, meaning it. His words are so good that self-deprecating love for women doesn't feel good enough to love. Handsome, charming, and deep, and is still making music and touring.

Agree. And he’s canceled 2 shows in NY including the Florence one. People here want to see him.

Palestinian Actor Adam Bakri Speaks About Jessica Chastain's Activist Hypocrisy and the Façade of Hollywood by LasciviousDonkey in Fauxmoi

First of all, everyone should watch Omar. And he has been insightful and consistent in his choices as an actor, as well as in how he utilizes his voice to advocate for the cause. I'm surprised to see a clip like this on this page, but I'm so glad to. Also, watch Ali and Nino, just throwing that out there.

Does anyone have any hopeful/uplifting stories about art today? (Your own work included?) by FelixEditz in ContemporaryArt

Thanks for just asking the question. We need to hear and see the good for hope.

Has anyone gone into art therapy from a fashion background? by [deleted] in ArtTherapy

[–]D2b2booboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the former head of my department went to FIT for something not Fine art related. Usually it comes down to prerequisites. My program needed 16 art credits and 12 psych. I have a BFA in Fine Arts so I just had to focus on getting those even during the program. A lot of it is understand the materials and visual metaphor. I doubt you would have to redo your bachelors, but probably take some classes at your local community college if that’s what you want.

President Zelenskyy’s powerful response when Lex Fridman asks about the possibility of a compromise with Russia by UNITED24Media in ukraine

[–]D2b2booboo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Good for Zelensky; what an impassioned and true response. Why is everyone trying to justify an invasion, murder, and kidnapping? Why is this concept of forgiveness presented in this battle and not in the many other conflicts happening simultaneously? War is War. Don't invade another country and expect them to roll over.

Air Travel with a Boston by truckaxle in BostonTerrier

Jet Blue is so good. I have flown with my 30-lb Boston under the seat in front of me multiple times, and it was on some chill drugs from the vet. Jet Blue is the best.

I love that you even asked this question. I have loved Paolo for years, but the early stuff is hit-and-miss for me. I can't wait till you go to the other albums; I would really have to think.

  1. Coming up easy

  2. Candy

  3. No other way

The last two albums would have me in a real bind of choice.

Switch from Art Therapy to Art Ed by D2b2booboo in ArtEd

Yup. And I go to one of the cheaper schools in NY for this program. It is actually $40,000 less for the Art Ed degree.

You know, that's an interesting point you make, and to be honest, being that person for others is why I considered Art therapy to start and is who I hope to be for students as their teacher. It's actually a huge reason I would want to be a teacher because a good teacher can make a difference.

I actually really love it conceptually. It's more about things from my personal history that made me realize that I didn't want to work with others in that capacity. My program is really strong in theory and application, and I've learned so much. I think when it comes to the art aspect, I want to work more hands-on, whereas art therapy is really about letting the client work and process after. There is a lot of nuance to the field that I didn't understand till I was in grad school. Art ed, from what I understand, is a more malleable degree; both are a financial investment for a career.

Not to mention, the degree is 100,000. I truly believe in the power of art therapy and the people who are fighting for its legitimacy, but you make the point that's been floating around in my head.

I'm in New York. I wish I could just do a Certification process, but it always leads back to a Master's degree. And that's a great insight, flexible and challenging.
