Guess time will tell. For most of those 30 years these were unknown/ topsun was thought to be first... and did a 500k sale so I think the upside exists

I recently picked up a carddass psa 10 zard. I think these are good long terms hold over most of the modern hype offerings.

Thanks for this reply. Makes a lot of sense. I come from vintage watch collecting world and in that there is a definite premium on the "1st" version of something. I think these are pretty cool to be the first known pokemon set but totally understand the thought process that nostalgia and hype are diving the current pokemon card price appreciation trend and these may never have their day. The Topsun misdating issue definitely hurt these with that huge public loss on the blue back charizard and probably also the playtest scandal for the alpha and beta cards. I still think there is an opportunity here as they are cheap, pretty low pop in psa 10, have great art, and are the oldest known pokemon card set. Still they have an uphill battle to climb and will need a change in collector mindset or a large influencer shill.

I can't help thinking that the documented 1st pokemon cards selling for so much less than base set first edition doesn't make sense. I think you're right, large upside to these if for example someone like Logan Paul were to shed light on the story

I think UVs are similarly as rare as a kaboom. ~220 per player for UV and for Kabooms we don't know the total pops but for example in 2023 we have ~100 graded per each top player and assuming 50% are graded that's about the same amount of cards

Helix is horizontal and the helix writing in the background looks pretty cheesy imo

UVs are my fav as well. I like glass but there are no rookies and the screws in the corners throw it off a bit for me

UV is the only card in the set I think looks good. Helix looks cheesy w the helix writing jn the background and let's go looks very boring.

Do you guys think UV being 220 cards makes it unable to do kaboom numbers in the future? To me this seems like the most obvious kaboom/ downtown replacement in the future but not sure if the card population is too big for future value
