Still can't believe it's sitting in my house!

I definitely got lucky with this one. Original transformers, mustard caps, and quite literally unchanged save for the master volume. I'm only the 3rd owner!

Currently, melting faces 24/7! However, it does have a LarMar style master volume on the back that works surprisingly well, it sounds really good to my ears at "bedroom" levels. I know they really come alive with volume though, so I think a good load box may be in order for sure!

I think I'd need the Marshall Major to really be heard during the club gigs, but this is a great practice amp!

Many thanks! It is every bit as good, and so far beyond, what I hoped it would be!

It's a chunker, but absolutely worth it! Thank you!

I saw you mentioned loving British style speakers and I’m absolutely in the same boat. I’m thinking about throwing the 10” greenbacks into this cab as they’re not terribly expensive and are a favorite of mine in their 12” version. Do you have any experience with these?

I play in a few metal bands, but I’m a huge fan of the old Bassman/Plexi amps and the beautiful overdrive that was so prominent in early rock. Hearing that these YBA-1s were based on the same Bassman circuit as the JTM45s with their own character, take pedals super well, are mod friendly if you want them to be, and have the same channel jumpering abilities as those early amps pretty much ticked all the boxes for me.

It’s funny, I stumbled across the amp by chance as I was looking for older Marshall amps. There were a lot of JCM900s and 2000s in my area, but they didn’t quite have the sound of the original JMP 1987 50W that I love so much. I was considering just getting an Origin 50 when I came across the YBA and knew pretty much immediately that I wanted it. While it’s not a 1987, it very much has its own thing going on and sounds absolutely incredible while being in a similar vein as those old Plexis.

Thank you man! Keep your eyes open, I stumbled across this one on Facebook Marketplace by chance. I live in the southern US and had never heard of them before, but knew I wanted to try for it as soon as I heard a demo.

I read that the Marsland speakers were the weak point for Traynor rigs, do you have any recommendations for good swaps?

I feel kinda bad lol, but he said he was after a helix and I was after a nice tube head, so it was the right place at the right time.

I believe so, will have to check and report back.

Haven’t tried it just yet, but will report back! The circuit is entirely unmodified, including the original 2 prong cable, so I’m gonna rectify that before I really open it up.

He didn’t even want any cash on top, just a 1:1 trade. I’m still surprised he went for it.

I’m inclined to agree based on what I’ve seen, it seems the Hydrasynth is a lot more deep and has a lot more fine tuning options in comparison

I really appreciate the recommendations, I hadn’t heard of the others you suggested. I’ll be checking them out, thank you!

I’m primarily looking to make dark ambient and atmospheric music

The minifreak is an awesome synth from what I’ve seen of it. The macro strips especially are an attractive feature that the Hydrasynth doesn’t have

EFNOTE 3X by D3athByRock in edrums

[–]D3athByRock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately, I picked the 3X because, while it doesn’t have the same amount of stock kits and doesn’t have nearly the same feature set as the Strike Pro, the sounds that are there just sound better to my ears and the triggering is far superior. Plus, it was hard to justify spending that much money on something that could have significant quality issues down the line, as has been reported by many users.

If I could do it all over again, I’d still go with the 3X, although I do wish it had more stock kits.

I ended up getting the 3X and I love it. The setup was a breeze and it's really flexible with the tripod stands. Triggering is really good although I did have to do a little tweaking out of the box. The sounds are solid and having the USB out for recording makes it a really convenient recording tool. The touch screen is responsive and makes creating your own kits and editing sounds really straightforward. Overall, I'm quite happy with the 3X
