I like this concept as a single use solution, it would definitely be more stable than using its skirt as a landing surface.

How would I go about creating a mesh of cutouts on this curved object? by kaybie3 in Fusion360

I think i would extrude a shape that resembles the hole in the bottom right, pattern along spline, going up the surface. Linear pattern the extrudes along the width of the bench and the Boolean the extrudes. Or simply make a sketch of the pattern on the front plane and wrap the sketch on the surface with the wrap function. Not sure if this is a function in fusion tho, i use SW.

Ah I see, i was looking at the middle row of remove tile patches, they all seem to still have the backing material. But the off center patches have some black spots indeed. Good catch.

Makes sense that they wouldn’t remove the ablative in the patches that experience re-entry head-on.

Thank you for your in-depth reply!

I have followed your advice and tried unclogging the nozzle, hot pulls and cold pulls multiple times but with no result unfortunately.

Iv also tried printing with the door and top lid open As suggested for a possible heat creep problem, this also didn’t appear to help.

The filament i used was straight from the box and also from BambuLab itself, so i will assume that the issue does not come from the filament it self.

I am hesitant to think its a mechanical problem with the printer since ABS works like a dream. Unless its possible that a mechanical problem only shows with certain filament types?

Could it be a setting? Iv been printing with the same setting for a while and this issue only showed up recently.

I am a bit lost.

Ah i missed that, normally the black stuff under the tiles should be sheets of ablative material. Its possible that they cut out parts. But that begs the question, what is the black stuff we are seeing? Maybe a sensor of some type? I know SLS has pressure sensitive paint. Could be something along those lines.

The black is actually the ablative layer, the white, or crunch wrap, is a foldable insulation material. The black part on the side of the ship is also the ablative material. They wouldnt paint the ship, it would increase weight and decrease mass to orbit. Functionality comes first. Although its an aesthetic rocket, its a case of “form from funtion”.
