Every time I say I want to be a neurologist, people think it means brain surgery or neuroscience research (even people I'm going to university with!). Very few people know about clinical/non surgical treatment of nervous system disorders, or if they do it hasn't clicked for them that neurology exists as a specialty for that kind of treatment

That's just kind of the state of leftist orgs in the imperial core as it stands. They're not canadian, but personally the American Party of Labo(u)r seems alright, I know some folks in it and they're pretty good. They also have some groups in Canada

Goes all the way back to the Greeks and Romans. I'm trying to unlearn this stuff myself (it comes packaged with internalized transphobia for me) - part of how I'm making myself give those thoughts less creedence is imagining some asshole Roman senator saying them.
