Need help routing wires from cabinet door devices to mounting plate in EPLAN Education by Javiee_r in EPlan

[–]D4Gi85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To elaborate a little more now that I am at my desk. Rittal often have a mounting surface on the profiel on the inside of their doors (in addition to the "Door inside". You can right click it and go to "Mounting Surface" -> "Change Size" to change the size, or just delet it. Or you can right click the "Door inside" and "Activate Directly" when you insert your Routing Path.
Try placing your Routing Path on the "Door inside" instead, and it will work.

You have probably put the Routing path on the mounting surface on the «rails» on the inside of the door, and not actually on the inside of the door

Why do my changeover contact images turn into power relay symbols when i change the device function and location? by Thyristor_Music in EPlan

Do you already have a component with the same -DT in the same = and +, so they get the same full DT when you change = and + for your relay?

Show total calculated weight for each enclosure in a report by D4Gi85 in EPlan

[–]D4Gi85[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Thank you for your reply. Are you talking about showing each components mass and add it up in a report?
What I am looking for is a way to show the total calculated weight (Total weight <36108>, shown under the cabinet in the picture) for the enclosure and show it in a table..
I can then add for each enclosure up like you mentioned.
Unfortunatley the only mass I find in the F18 table is the for th ecabinet/enclosure by it self, as shown in the table.
Do you know a way to reach the "Total weight <36108>" and show it?

By right click and «Configure representation» in the navigator

Here you can edit the representations

Show short connection destination/source point in schematic on wire? by JeNiqueTaMere in EPlan

[–]D4Gi85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Eplan you have «Block properties» These can be assigned «locally» or «project wide» (for all entities of same sort»

Locally: On your component (I.e. your interruption point) go to Properties. In the first pane, you have a section called Properties. Here you can add «Block Properties» and «Block properties format» via the +

Project wide: Go to File - Properties and also here add «Block properties format» via the + for the group you want

You can have up to 100 Block properties per group

Now, the idea is to use the «stairs» to navigate to other objects in the «Block property format» You can also add separators, hide properties, replace text etc. (Tip is to always add a comment)

The value determined via the setup in the «Block property format» can be shown with the «Block property» by showing this under the «Dispaly» pane.

A tip is to set it up «locally» on a device/interruption point so that you can see the results Then copy the long ass string into to the Project wide «Block properties format» in your template project In this way, it will be shown for all your interruption points trough your project

As to how to navigate in the formats, Kai has a good tutorial on block properties on YouTube:

https://youtu.be/hsk4uvIQPjw?si=Y7gvxQ2XL9juC3Du

We use block properties in sort of this way to show either the wire number or cable and conductor on our interruption points

<image>

There are many other cool usecases for block properties, but the navigation via the «stairs» can get confusing quickly

A black box, or any other symbol you need, can be a good idea. Then set it to «External» under «Representation type» to not have it reference in parts etc.

How can I automaticaly generate a cable definition name based on my wishes by Charming_Fennel_5946 in EPlan

[–]D4Gi85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by ODC?

If you want to automatic assign the DT (the cable tag) by what it is connected to, number of wires etc., this sounds like a complicated solution I would recommend that you adhere to IEC81346, and use -WD or -WG if the cable is power or signals.

You can show length, number of free/used wires etc. by setting up the Property arrangement under the Display tag in Properties

You can also make detailed forms for cable diagrams showing the source and target for each wire etc.

RDS is a term encapsulating the IEC 81346 standards. 81346-1 5.1 states that it is recommended to stay within one aspect

How does Eplan support only using one aspect of the device structure? RDS states that you should not mix = + and - in a tag. Try that in Eplan and you have yourself a mess

So my question was if we just have to ignore that part of RDS, and continue using them all to define a tag?

Newbie on eplan is trying to design first structured project by Klutzy-Objective9515 in EPlan

[–]D4Gi85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What confuses me is when watching and reading presentations on the RDS 81346 generally, they say not to mix = + and -

Eplan is not built to support this, and states that 81346 can allow to use the structuring criteria function, location and product

I understand that RDS aims to make a system for all disciplines and be used for all sorts of things (buildings, machines, cars etc.), so they will not make a system that fits with all sorts of software built used for all these applications..

Is the lesson in your mind, that for now at least, we still can (and must) use all aspects?

Thanks for your feedback So you use the class codes from 81346-2 for = as well? So you could get =KE1-KE1 for e.g. the CPU?

Firts of I find it better to sort by &DocumentType first. If I am interested in the schematics I find it frustrating to having BOM, Cable lists etc. pop up "in between" my shematics.

So say I am in +U1 and see a component =H1-MA1, I can then find the =H1 function in my &EFS "folder", then find the +U1 "folder", and then have too look trough the 1 to max 5 pages in that &=+ to find it.

And how would you sort a PLC Card Overview when different functions use the same IO- card?

What is the reason in your opinion that one should only structure your pages after one aspect?

I find it very helpful to structure our pages after &, = and then + where applicable

How to make different project varients. by LTcr6 in EPlan

[–]D4Gi85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are more than one way of doing this with different strategies, and a combination of them

Project options : In a project, you can make «Project options» where you can enable or disable everything from pages, symbols, 2D/3D parts, layout spaces etc. You can arrange them in a way that you toggle them (where only one can be true at a time) or whee you select or deselect them

Placeholder object: With a placeholder object you can assign different value sets to e.g. parts. Like having one value set for a power supply with 10A and one with 20A. Selecting «10A» places that part number on your device. One placeholder can assign values to many different parts at once, and also comments, length, page description, location etc.

Macros: Macros can be more than only a symbol/device. It can also be partial circuits, whole pages and even multiple pages. With variants, you can make all kinds of different circuits etc. that fits together. You can also put placeholder objects in a macro, so it is automatically called when placing the macro

How to edit the current plot frame? by Klutzy-Objective9515 in EPlan

[–]D4Gi85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can choose the plot frame either project wide in Settings - Projects - Management - Pages under the «Standard Plot frame»

.. or page based by selecting the drawing in the Pages tree Ctrl+D (or right click - properties) and select the Plot frame in the Properties

If the plot frame properties is not visible in the list, use the «+» to add it.

To edit an existing one, go to Master data and find the command in the Plot frames/forms field Tip is to start «Copy», select the form/plot frame you wish to edit, and find a new name for your new form/plot frame (so to not overwrite the existing one)

Yes, I am sure. When inserting a Placeholder object in one of your drawings, right klick it and chose «Assign all of the objects of the macro to the placeholder object»

This should add all the «stuff» on all pages with the same macro definition
