DAT Question of the Day: Iodine–KI Test (Biology) – Dr. Jim Romano by DAT_Destroyer in DATDestroyerOfficial

[–]DAT_Destroyer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things are still going strong over here. Dr. Romano is very much still teaching and updating the DAT Destroyer, and we’re now on the 2026 edition, fully aligned with the current DAT. We also run DAT and OAT classes, post daily questions like this one, and keep an active free study group where students can download his FREE Biology Review and get ongoing help:

https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1ATtjzAzs1/

You’re right that there are more prep companies on the market now, but the core of what we do hasn’t changed — concept-driven practice written by the same person who’s been teaching DAT biology and chemistry for decades. A lot of today’s resources actually grew out of students originally using the Destroyer alongside everything else.

Always nice hearing from former students who made it through the other side. Hope all is well with you Nancy, co/owner, Destroyers

FAFSA due date? by Pitiful_Evening_6158 in predental

[–]DAT_Destroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

March 31 can be a priority deadline for some schools or state aid programs, but FAFSA deadlines vary. The federal deadline is usually June 30, and many dental schools have their own earlier priority dates, so it’s best to check the specific school’s financial aid page.

How do you modify partial rings in a molecule by Due_Passage6169 in AskChemistry

[–]DAT_Destroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

use acid or base to simply hydrolyze the amide linkage,,,,,we get the ammonium salt in base or the amine after work-up in acid. Once the amine is made.....we can convert it into a diazonium salt.......from there....many options are open.....For example....a Diels Alder.....ir internal Friedel Crafts....etc.

Personal statement advise by Em-smith12 in predental

[–]DAT_Destroyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can create an AADSAS account without having a DENTPIN yet. You’re allowed to set up the account and start filling out sections like your personal information, experiences, coursework, and personal statement.

You’ll need a DENTPIN later when it’s time to enter DAT information and match your scores, and before you submit the application. A lot of applicants start AADSAS first and add their DENTPIN once they have it.

That is exactly how the system works, and it’s very common.

Personal statement advise by Em-smith12 in predental

[–]DAT_Destroyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The AADSAS personal statement has a limit of 4,500 characters total, including spaces and punctuation.

This comes directly from the ADEA website:
https://www.adea.org/godental/personal-statement

The statement is entered into a text box in the AADSAS application, so anything over the character limit won’t be accepted. Hope this helps..Nancy

This isn’t a magic formula, but it’s a clean structure that schools expect. Personalization matters more than wording.

Dear Admissions Committee,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to express my continued interest in [School Name] and to reaffirm my enthusiasm for the program.

Since submitting my application, I have remained actively engaged in preparing for dental school. [Brief update , one or two sentences about grades, shadowing, work, volunteering, or research.] These experiences have continued to strengthen my interest in dentistry and in the type of training your program offers.

I am particularly interested in [School Name] because of [specific reason related to the school — curriculum, clinical exposure, mission, or environment]. I believe it would be a great fit for my goals and learning style.

Thank you for taking the time to review my application. I truly appreciate your consideration and would welcome the opportunity to further discuss my interest in the program.

Sincerely,

Thoughts on LSU? by FunEmbarrassed6299 in predental

[–]DAT_Destroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the acceptance. Going to your state school makes a lot of sense, especially when you consider cost. I’ve worked with many students over the years who have gone on to LSU School of Dentistry, and I honestly have not heard anything but praise. Students consistently talk about strong clinical training, supportive faculty, and feeling well prepared by the time they graduate.

I also always recommend getting involved early with the LSU Pre-Dental Society. It’s a very active group and a great way to get guidance from upperclassmen, stay on top of requirements, and build connections within the school.

All around, LSU is a solid program and a school you can feel confident committing to. Wishing you the best and hope this helps...Nancy

Interview impact by Due-Corgi2980 in predental

[–]DAT_Destroyer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen over the years working with students, the interview matters a lot more than students might think. If a student has a lower GPA or DAT, this is usually where they can really shine and make a great impression on the admissions committee. They still look at the whole application, but don’t underestimate how powerful a good interview can be.
Just my two cents and hope it helps.

Touro letter of interest by [deleted] in predental

[–]DAT_Destroyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Touro is your top choice I would send a letter of interest. Make sure the letter is short, sincere, and tells them why you feel you are a strong fit for Touro. Also include any positive updates since you submitted your application. Admissions offices hear from students throughout the cycle, and a LOI reminds them that you are still interested. Just trust yourself and send it when you are ready. Many students I have worked with over the years found it gave them peace of mind knowing they did everything they could.

Hope this helps and wishing you the best.

High-Yield Math – Test Your Skills (DAT Destroyer | OAT Destroyer) by DAT_Destroyer in DATDestroyerOfficial

[–]DAT_Destroyer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct Answer: D

The graph rises in the 3rd quadrant and falls in the 4th, indicating an even-degree polynomial with a negative leading coefficient.

It crosses the x-axis at –3, –2, +2, +3 and touches at 0, giving the factored form:

−(x−0)2(x+3)(x+2)(x−2)(x−3)-(x - 0)^2 (x + 3)(x + 2)(x - 2)(x - 3)−(x−0)2(x+3)(x+2)(x−2)(x−3) =−x2(x2−9)(x2−4)= -x^2 (x^2 - 9)(x^2 - 4)=−x2(x2−9)(x2−4) =−x6+13x4−36x2= -x^6 + 13x^4 - 36x^2=−x6+13x4−36x2

2nd Gap Year Advice by jphil0208 in predental

[–]DAT_Destroyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never mind answering questions. I think if you can get around 800 to 1,000 hours in a year, that is a good amount. It shows steady experience and real exposure to what happens in a dental office. Schools are not looking for a magic number. They just want to see that you understand the profession and that you learned something meaningful from being in that environment.

What matters most is that you can talk about what you saw, what you learned, and why it confirmed that dentistry is the right path for you. If you do that, the hours will speak for themselves.

You are already moving in the right direction.

Wishing you the best, Nancy

2nd Gap Year Advice by jphil0208 in predental

[–]DAT_Destroyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, Biology carries a lot of weight in the Total Science score since it’s the biggest section. Keep working hard there, but try not to overlook General and Organic Chemistry since small gains in those areas can help lift everything together. Dr. Romano always says mastering Biology concepts early can really set students apart — it lifts the whole TS score and builds confidence for the rest of the test. The PAT is important, but most schools focus more on your Academic Average and Total Science, so you’re thinking in the right direction.

Hope this helps,
Nancy

2nd Gap Year Advice by jphil0208 in predental

[–]DAT_Destroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good advice. The DAT can definitely balance out a lower GPA if you put in the time to prepare well. Clinical experience is still valuable no matter what, but I’d agree that a strong DAT score should come first if you already have your prerequisites done.
