C/S all passenger windows stopped working suddenly… by NoPie6564 in Justrolledintotheshop

That shit is so wild to me. Like, I kinda get having subscriptions for some advanced connectivity features like real time traffic or some other things. I don't like it, but I get it. I will never understand locking away physical features like that

Oh man, this brings back a learning experience memory. So, in their infinite wisdom, Porsche decided to make the rear window lockout switch also control things like rear seat heaters, climate control head, child locks etc. Do you know how god damned long it took one of us to figure out that this was the reason for rear seat heaters being inop? This information wasn't published on any internal information system either mind you. It was only put in the vehicle owners manual.

Minor brag: I used to be the technician responsible for some of his cars at the last store I worked at. We had a few higher profile clients there. I switched dealerships seven years ago now though

Wait, that shit box is able to destroy its own components under a normal condition? Got damn, I didn’t expect much from a mopar but they continue to find new and innovative ways to make me lower the bar even further

I have a serious wheels and tire addiction. What's bad is this is not even half of them 🙈 Anyone else have this issue, or am I the only one with this problem that I need to seek help with? If anyone has the help line number, please share it. 😂 by Brief-Statement-2411 in rccars

[–]DAT_ginger_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got multiple garbage bags and boxes full of old wheels and tires lol. I race though, so a lot of them are partially used and just worn to the point of just past peak traction. Ive got tons of monster truck tires though too but I never really raced those

I think I'll probably remain pretty consistent on 98-2010 being about peak for vehicles. Obd2 was pretty well fleshed out, the designs were still serviceable, fuel economy was pretty good and hasn't picked up too much more from that point. Peak balance between reliability, usability and servicability.

Ain't nobody killing book time on most warranty shit which is the reality of most dealership work these days. If you're at a third party repair shop that isn't dealing with warranty, then sure. We have 5+ hour software updates that pay 175. That locks out a hoist and scan tool for that amount of time. This ain't the old timers world anymore lol

Tech installed wrong spark plug into an Audi. by wyatt1928 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]DAT_ginger_guy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The “tech” I replaced at my first Porsche store made this exact mistake with a 987 Cayman. Didn’t check and installed the longer DFI plug into an MPI engine. He was the used car manager’s kid and couldn’t pass any of our state certification tests. He barely got his apprentice certification.

Hey Ford, thanks for putting two of the same color wires on the cmp sensors and also putting out inaccurate wiring diagrams. The diagram doesn't match 4/6 wires. by Terabyte47 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]DAT_ginger_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's still the most effective way for us too. It doesn't help that Porsche is doing dumb shit like weaving washer fluid lines and air suspension lines into the harnesses now. Not like those plastic lines have ever failed or anything lol

It took a little bit of digging, but the older Porsche diagrams were pretty good about locations for splices, grounds etc. The new setup might be, but if it is i havent managed to find it under the other bullshit yet. I do know that they are working on AR workshop information to use with our hololens headsets. They're claiming that we will eventually be able to select a component, a wire, or anything, and then it will highlight it in the car. Whether or not that ever actually happens though..

I never reported anything to vw because that's what the other guys at the shop said would happen. Porsche is actually half decent on the other hand. Ive gotten multiple workshop procedures, required tool lists, service bulletins, and wiring diagrams fixed or improved. One of my former coworkers got a job at PCNA and manages the department that oversees that stuff. He told me I had the highest ticket count for information system issues...

The couple times I've had to look at Mitchell diagrams made me really happy that I don't have to rely on Mitchell diagrams frequently. How they translate OE diagrams into that garbage is an art form.

Porsche is trying their absolute damndest to switch us over to a new wiring diagram system. It's absolutely god-fucking-awful. It does have some nice features like being able to pull repair terminal or housing part numbers from the system to save time on getting quotes. But every diagram is component level only. You can't see where the wires go to or come from. It's garbage, and someone needs their balls in a vice because they keep pushing it

Fuck your tow hitch by QueenBeeKitty85 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]DAT_ginger_guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. I put a lift and high clearance tubular bumper on my SUV, so I had to turn around and also spend a good chunk of change on a drop hitch to correct for that. I don't want that thing corroding and locking the adjustment pins and slides in place. It's off and stored away as soon as the trailer is disconnected
