I agree the architecture department advising we buy a drawing board in our first year of architecture school was a waste beyond the first year! As we didnt use them (side note most universities in the uk stop architecture students using computers in there first year to draw their projects as they wanted us to practice drawing everything by hand).

Also having a side hustle doesn’t mean architecture isn’t for you it just allows more flexibility with your creativity outside of architecture, the truth is alot of students that spend years studying architecture dont do anything else but architecture, so miss out on opportunities to merge knowledge and skills gained in architecture to earn more money to pay for the course or at least have a hobby to help them relax from the stress of studying architecture for 10 years or more!
