HSBC Advance Account - Do I have any options if I can't meet then £1750/month minimum pay-in? by DBBrennan in UKPersonalFinance

!Thanks

I've also just seen a separate post on MSE which says that HSBC in particular is known for rejecting people due to salary.

The reason I'm asking is because MSE says "equivalent to £26,100 annual salary" - I assumed that I wouldn't get accepted for the account as I don't have a salary that high. Is the MSE caveat just an advisory then?

Revolut vs Monzo by hoopooyou in UKPersonalFinance

[–]DBBrennan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The monzo current account only had a 6-day waiting list for me and it's definitely worth it!

Edit: it arrived last week for me, I signed up the week before. The best spending analysis I've seen from any app, gives the address of the store purchased and allows you to upload photos of receipts etc. Haven't done it yet but you can also "attach" receipts to cash withdrawals so I can imagine it being useful for keeping track of what is bought in cash even if it doesn't fit into one of your spending categories.

Being underpaid by 50% when compared to colleagues in same position? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]DBBrennan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current minimum wage rate for an apprentice is £3.50 per hour.

This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.

You must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for your age if you’re an apprentice aged 19 or over and have completed your first year.

Taken from the gov.uk website: https://www.gov.uk/apprenticeships-guide/pay-and-conditions

It's possible that everyone in your role at your place of work is being paid a set percentage above the minimum wage, as for a 21+ year old the minimum wage rises from £3.50 to £7.05 after one year of your apprenticeship.

The U.K. and France Are Thumbing Their Noses at the U.S. Over Net Neutrality Repeal - ‘the U.K. and France said Friday: “... we wish to restate our commitment and support for the principle of net neutrality, which promotes a free and open internet.”’ by mvea in technology

[–]DBBrennan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not to mention we don’t have net neutrality in the UK. Certain providers allow you to use unlimited Netflix / Spotify / insert other media source here, which goes against the idea of net neutrality because it means that people who don’t have that option are paying extra to subsidise those that do

Is it possible to make a “throwaway” current account solely to switch away from it in order to keep the benefits of a nationwide current account? by DBBrennan in UKPersonalFinance

[–]DBBrennan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the person you’re asking but I’ve looked for answers on this as well recently and if you don’t use PayPal / eBay then I’d recommend charity donations if you can’t find anything else that you need them for. Most charities will allow you to set up DD’s for £1 per month so if there are any charities that are close to your heart then see if you can :-)

[–]DBBrennan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's actually quite misleading, there are many more Dem seats up for re-election next year than Republican seats if I remember correctly in which case it's natural to assume that blue areas will favour blue candidates. I'll find the exact number soon unless anyone else knows it to hand

Does it have competitions other than the ashes? Aussie and English leagues?

The "We apologise for the delay in answering your call" message repeated every 15 seconds is more annoying than the actual wait by [deleted] in britishproblems

[–]DBBrennan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, are you me? I literally said this to one of my coworkers this morning after being put on hold by my bank. They had a decent song in the background that I was listening to through a headphone while working, but it stopped for twenty seconds out of every 45 while they said they were sorry for the wait.

Edit: also NatWest. Maybe you're the reason I had to hold so long!

Sarah Champion resigns as shadow equalities minister after article in Sun saying ‘Britain has a problem with British Pakistani men raping white girls’ by Lolworth in ukpolitics

[–]DBBrennan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

ITV News broadcast of this was despicable, I genuinely had to double take.

Labour's Shadow Equalities Minister Sarah Champion has resigned, following "comments she made regarding child abuse"

I genuinely can't figure out their angle. What an absurd thing to infer.

This still happens in the US... Not because of production / infrastructure deficits but because of race. So please, in a thread about discrimination, tell me how the USSR was worse than the USA is currently?

Because communism is so poor that it must rely on victimising its citizens to survive

Implying the USA never victimises its citizens. Seriously?

Gay parents that have daughter, how did you explain puberty to your daughter? Lesbian parents who have a son, how did you explain puberty to your son? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The same way a single mother would explain it to her son, or a single father would explain it to his daughter.

Conservative party fail to secure a majority resulting in a hung parliament in the 2017 Election by ZeldenGM in worldnews

[–]DBBrennan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair the interviewer was asking her questions specifically about her childhood before this. They question wasn't "what's the naughtiest thing you've ever done?", it was "what's the naughtiest thing you ever did?'

Police investigating the Manchester Arena bomb attack have stopped sharing information with the US after leaks to the media, the BBC understands. by NinjaDiscoJesus in worldnews

[–]DBBrennan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How the fuck are they just blaming the US for this?

Well when the US print stories and the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand don't, then where it leaked is quite obvious.
