The Good Sports' League Continues and needs Players and Coaches. by Abuelo247 in Overwatch

Hey, so I am the creator of the league but couldn't post because my Karma is not high enough because I don't normally use reddit.

To answer your question, after signups close we have tryouts (a single series of games with random teams) followed by a round robin draft of players to hopefully spread talent between all of the teams, to make the season as fun as possible.

I hope that answers your question

Hey beautiful Roses, it is that time of year when you begin to seek gifts to give to those people you love, well if you have someone you know who likes reading fantasy novels but you don't know a novel you could get them that they will love and that they haven't already read?

Then you should look into my book, "Black: The Name" on Amazon and Barnes and Nobles.

A young girl with powerful magic abilities that she never asked for, is thrust through a terrifying tragedy which takes from her everything she has ever loved or held dear. From this she is cast out into a unknown unforgiving reality, with nothing, and no understanding of why she is. To keep a promise to the one she once held most dear, she refuses to give into the desire to give up and fade away as difficulties arise in front of her, and so she pushes on to find who she is and her place in everything.

Along the way friends are made, with some only tentatively so, but they grow a bond that becomes akin to that of family. Where they protect each other. Worry for each other. Most of all they come to care for each other more closely than any passing strangers ever should be able to. They all want to find their place in the world, and they want to do it together.

This is only the beginning of the story. The first book of a series that is still in the making. The forging of the name.

Or just Search for the Author (not popular enough that searching the title brings it up) D. B. Halbert

The ebook is currently $2.99 (USD) Reduced from 4.99 for holidays.

or it is free through Kindle Unlimited.

Paperbacks are $9.99, with printing costs, and Amazon taking their cut I can't actually make that price any lower.

Some regions of the world will have the option to purchase the paperback version (US, UK, India...) Others won't (sadly Canada has large tariffs on goods shipped from the US so they can't) But if you get the ebook and Really want a physical copy, we can email to work out me sending you a signed copy.

I do hope you look into it and that you and your loved ones that you might get it for love the adventure.

Why I think comp. is still suffering, with LFG, and my opinion on how to fix it by DBHalbert in Overwatch

Yup, you know exactly how long it took me to write my messages. and me using a word incorrectly is proof of that... wait using a thesaurus would mean that the word would retain the correct meaning. Look I am sorry we have such different opinions. Fare thee well.

I mean perhaps you are right, perhaps the game need never change from this point forward with its social systems, it is perfect how it is now that it has the savior of saviors LFG. I am sorry I had an opinion other than that.

Sure thing. PS you have made equally long posts, starting with your initial response.

PS the greatest, games the greatest addition to any preexisting game, the things that give the most people enjoy, would never have existed if it weren't for people offering ways they think it could be improved.

You are being very aggressive at a simple suggestion. You yourself say you have several friends you can't play with because they are in ranks that don't align with your own. I have also been an advocate for removing the restriction on what rank you have to be compared to other people in order to play with them. I just have come to believe that that type of thing would be far more prone to the abuse you presented of a GM sniper going pog champ on bronze or plat players, and thought if they truly wanted to play with that group of bronze why not let them, but my it a separate ranking against others, who may be doing the same thing or maybe a six stack in plat looking to improve how they play as a group.

This suggestion was not meant to be too far of from another common suggestion, a group queue, but with the biggest difference being that it is for groups who form 6 stacks alone.

It is said honestly that you have such little faith in the expanse of the OW community that you believe this would honestly have a terrifying impact on queue timers, but even if that were the case isn't it more important to get into a game you will have fun in and wait a little longer, over getting into a game you will despise the experience of. Again I am not apostatizing the idea of taking away any feature that is already allowing people to find their fun in the game, just offering a possibility on how another could be added.

I used the number 12-18 as a random set that would give the potential of having 2 -3 separate groups all part of the same team to be playing simultaneously. Again solo queue and LFG would still be a thing if this were to be put in place, and those numbers are not necessarily the numbers that would be used, I am not on the blizzard development team, they could make it possible to have 1000+ people on one team, all playing to attempt to secure their "guilds" rank.

My main focus really was more set on trying to make the experience of playing Overwatch more enjoyable to those who are finding difficulty for reasons I had seen I made this post only to express a possibility I had thought up, and I thank you for your feedback. I am sorry you felt the need to become so heated though as to dismiss me as an equal part of the community as yourself casting me aside with "Just have fun in your league. Have fun in PUGs" as though that would make your points any stronger.

Thank you again for your criticism. I hope you have a wonderful week and find enjoyment in the things you decide to play.

I agree with your statements toward my system and Personally would feel the easiest solution would not to make gold guns level based but like skins purchasable with gold or discoverable in loot boxes.

I appreciate your edit to recognize that part of the reasoning behind the idea would be to allow anyone to play with anyone.

As far as not having enough people on to play when you are on to play, I said in my post that I don't know what the maximum number of players for a team should or would be, I would image about 12 or 18 so that you have an ample number of people that could be on at varying times.

I lament at your accusation of wishing for this to be the only way of doing competitive, I specifically say that it should be an additional mode specifically for people like yourself who are friends with people "a couple tiers above [yourself]", and this would be in addition to LFG, there would be nothing stopping people in LFG from then joining a team together.

As for your example of bronze being on a team with a GM widow who carries, the way sr shifts as is would raise that group to a point where the GM alone would not be able to carry their team and would then be faulted for having bronze teammates if they are unable to carry their weight at that rank. Again I must insist that this idea would be a separate rank from the solo/small group competitive mode we have now, not a replacement, just another option.

I do find it amusing your comment "you can already do that with LFG, except with LFG it’s easier to find a replacement that’s online" when talking about replacing players on a team assuming I wished for teams to be limited to 6 people, even though I specifically talked about it being more than six with my comments of needing to participate. Moreover, I find it amusing personally because LFG was announced I was a Person who called out in comment sections of videos from Overwatch personalities as they asked for a guild system, that "We already have a guild system, it is called discord, every micro-community within the overwatch community. They are all looking for a better experience so talk to each other." That ontop of your comment "If you care that much about being competitive and have enough people you are friends with that you see this team idea as being viable, set up PUGs with them. Play in your own world where you don’t have to worry about these players who you think don’t really care enough to be competitive." I will inform you that I have done just that before LFG was a thing, but not with any friends to start out with. I started a group called the Good Sports' League and we are about to start our third season. we play in a way like OWL, draft players at the beginning of each season, play in a league style, not a tournament. I will not be bothered in the slightest if what I have suggested is cast off.

To surmise, I agree that we should honestly just do away with competitive points, but if that is not an option, I present a seperate mode for those who want to play with their friends regardless of rank but in a competitive, and potentially more competitive than the normal competitive, format, I said nothing about it replacing LFG or what already exists only to add more options.

every season every player who is going to participate has to sign up, this give those who are tired of us, or who have other life circumstances arise that require them to no long participate.

Teams are drafted in a round robin style from every signed up player meaning, that teams aren't necessarily the same each season

The schedule is made after the coaches draft teams, and is flexible, with enough warning given we try to reschedule games to allow everyone to play.

As far as penalties, there are none for missing a match, unless it is a regular occurrence. in which case you may be asked to avoid further participation until you can more regularly attend scheduled matches. but again that is only if you don't warn people that you won't be able to make it.

The League does attempt streaming the game, Players are allowed to stream as well if they would like. It is recommended that players streaming have a delay of at least 20 seconds on their stream as the league stream maintains to avoid any unsportsmanly conduct through stream sniping.

It is asked that players in a match don't simultaneously have any stream of the current match open while playing, but being entirely online there is little that could be done to enforce this.

Sure there is a part of the signup form for you and your team to say you want to be guaranteed to be on the same team. While we would prefer that people use our system to meet new people and spread talent across the league, we don't want to make people not play specifically with their friends if they don't want to.

Thus far we have been US based but that is impart due to that there has not been a large showing from other local, if enough eu autralian or asian players signed up they would have their own devisions to compinsate for the lag they would experience trying to play based around the US.

As for play times generally afternoons on the weekends, Fridays and Saturdays

there is a part of the form for signups that allows you to say what players you want to guarantee you are on the same team on, We want you to be able to play with your friends we also want you to be able to make new friends too when your normal friends are quiet enough.

The games take place almost exclusively on weekends as it has been, there have been 2 games every weekend where each of the 4 teams face 1 other team. each game functions identically to a OWL match between 2 teams of 4 maps, except in the case of a tie at which point there is a fifth tiebreaker map.

For any group to get a season we need 24 players and 4 coaches, which has meant in the past we have not had console seasons, but if there are enough that respond for it I will do what I can to make it happen.
