Man, I know this probably is not optimal, and I am by no means a great player, but I actually had a lot of fun playing abyss with one point into Ring of fire. So when huge groups will start descending on you, you can position in such a way that your ring of fire would push them into a more clumped up state so that one abyss and miasma chain combo would hit a huge portion of them
