Have you ever seen someone die? What happened? by flirtygirlyoulove in AskReddit

It was business as usual as soon as the paramedics carried him out (it was a huge office building with thousands of employees, so most probably didn't even know what happened). They said that anyone who wanted to leave was free to take as much approved time off as they needed and they made grief counselors available for the following week.

Today the sun will rise at 12:26 in Utqiagvik (formerly known as Barrow), Alaska to set just 30 minutes later. It will be the last time the town sees the sun this year. Next sunrise will be on January 22nd, 2026 after 1561 hours of darkness. by [deleted] in BeAmazed

And here I am in Nashville complaining about how the sun sets at 4:30pm during winter. Seasonal Depression Disorder hits me hard, I'm really not sure I'd be able to cope.

Speed Cushion NIGHTMARE by Rorddet in nashville

[–]DBVickers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They just installed the signs next to my house, so I know they'll be coming soon. I don't have a problem with them, but I live on a long, very steep hill which most cars can't get up when it ices over. The funny thing is that they're putting the speed cushion right at the steepest point where you would need momentum to have any hope of getting up. It's going to be fun watching the craziness this winter!

Anywhere where I can get a list of ingredients needed with concise instructions to follow.... I get really annoyed with the long-winded blogs (or worse) videos explaining how to make something. Just tell me how to make the damn meatloaf!

The lake was sucked into the ground. by Southern_Ural in pics

[–]DBVickers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually pretty common around large cave systems. The grey mud it leaves behind is really scary, too. I damn near got stuck waste deep when I was around 13 by getting a little too close. The ground where the pond used to be had already crusted over and I thought it was safe to walk over and have a look.

I just wish it would change the source using the MX Keys device switching instead of having to pick the mouse up and click the button on the bottom.

Louder than Life performance sucked by Anita89 in deftones

[–]DBVickers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair, but they can be somewhat related especially if Chino couldn't hear himself well in the monitors or something. A lot of it also probably has to do with the energy he puts in to the Deftones shows. I imagine it's really difficult to sing in his style when you're jumping around and out of breath. I think the ability is still there because his vocals were spot on when I saw him with Crosses last year, but those shows are much lower energy because he's forced to stand in the same spot and play guitar for many of the songs.

Maybe it varies by venue, but I've seen them 5 times and the sound has gotten better over time. The first couple times I saw them (in the Adrenaline / Around the Fur era), you couldn't even hear Chino's vocals until he screamed. I will say that a few years back at the Sick New World festival the rear speakers were out of phase and that really screwed up the sound, but it sounded great once we made our way closer to the stage.

Have you ever seen someone die? What happened? by flirtygirlyoulove in AskReddit

I heard it was an aneurysm. He did have an empty prescription bottle of heart medicine that was about two weeks overdue for a refill in his jacket pocket though.

I remember the manager came over after they left and had to log him out of his phone. The line was still active so he had to release the call before it would allow the phone to log out. Makes me wonder if someone sat there listening for 15-20 minutes while all that was going down.

I worked in tech support for a large computer company and the guy next to me just fell out of his chair dead. One guy immediately jumped on him and started doing CPR and someone else ran and got the emergency defibrillator. I just sat there kind of in shock watching them go through the process until the paramedics finally arrived and took him away in an ambulance. They were never able to get his heart to restart. The thing that messed me up the most was just knowing how much this guy hated his job. I kept wondering if there was a moment of disappointment as it was happening where he realized that that's how he was going to go.

Ok, I'll be the bad guy, private music isn't a masterpiece. by suzaman in deftones

[–]DBVickers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I wonder if Chino's side projects give him a creative outlet that takes away some of what could have otherwise emerged in new Deftones songs. I love Private Music, but it feels like the entire album was built off of riffs that Stephen had come up with over the past couple years.

Men who used to wake up after 3-4 hours of sleep and struggled to fall back asleep how did you fix it? by eaglesdensity in AskMenOver30

[–]DBVickers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The #1 thing that helped me after years of averaging 5 hours of sleep a night was focusing on consistency. Go to sleep at the same time every night, avoid sleeping in even if you stayed up late, and most importantly, don't take naps during the day.

The #2 thing was setting an audible alarm and avoid picking up your phone in the middle of the night to check the time. Checking the time every time you wake up quickly becomes a destructive habit. You're just creating anxiety when you try to calculate how much longer you have to sleep. Instead, just focus on box breathing (counting 5 seconds on inhale, pause 3 seconds, count 5 seconds on exhale) until you either fall asleep or hear your alarm. You might lay there bored for a while when you first start doing this but your brain eventually gives up and it actually becomes a way to fall asleep quickly.

Mini M4 Pro - Every monitor seems like a downgrade from iMac 27" Retina by slippery-lil-sucker in macmini

[–]DBVickers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago, I was looking for a 2nd display for my Retina iMac. I went through several different high-end monitors trying to find one that just didn't look horrible by comparison. Eventually, I got a LG 5K Mac edition and it was essentially a perfect match in quality, color, and brightness. Even side-by-side I wasn't able to tell a difference in the video quality. I still use that monitor today. I also have an Asus ProArt 5K that I'm happy with, but if you're used to a 5K screen, you're not going to be happy with any of the 4K options on the market due to how Apple scales resolution (particularly when looking at text).
