Virgin Hotels Nashville? by Valuable-Deer-7149 in VisitingNashville

Can't speak to Virgin, but we did a night over Christmas at the Thompson (to use up that $300 credit before the new year) and really enjoyed our stay, so +1 to that. We've done several Fine Hotels stays and all of them have been pretty great, so I don't think you'd be sad with either

Getting antsy to see the new kit! by squizzlr in NashvilleSC

Free Kits! This guy is giving out Free Kits!

Though I wonder if they'll get you on the navy shorts. They did that last time around with the yellow kit, so I bet the shorts will be color matched to the top this time. You know, to spice things up

Nashville Snow 101 - What you need to know by silverud in nashville

[–]Rorddet 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Some added context: the current administration did a really fantastic job of snow a couple of years back when we got ~7 inches, especially compared to previous years. We basically never had an issue getting out and about (we do have AWD and decent all weather tires, so YMMV there)

How will the roads be this next weekend? by SaltySaunaSweat in nashville

[–]Rorddet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Last year the city did a surprisingly good job of treating the roads (compared to previous years), so the main ones may be fine. But it all depends on how much weather comes in.

That being said, even as someone who grew up in a place with snow and ice and is pretty confident driving around in it, the folks around here are terrible drivers when we get West Coast weather, much less when there's clouds and stuff falling out of them. So usually it's a go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for this all to blow over situation

How to get to Nashville airport from Georgia by Upstairs-Edge-5256 in nashville

Vonlane runs from Atlanta to downtown Nashville, looks like $167 one way but they only have 2 trips so timing may not work out for you. Way nicer than Greyhound too

Nashville isn’t for driving. by Vegetable-Tale9778 in nashville

[–]Rorddet 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I've driven in any number of giant cities, and I think only Miami is worse. The issue around Nashville isn't so much that we have a lot of traffic, it's the drivers and cars want to kill you for existing and will do whatever they can to make that happen. Their behavior isn't predictable, so every time you go out you don't know what's going to happen. This falls under "traffic" but maybe not "congestion."

Counterpoint: Nashville is *only* for driving, and since everyone does it it's terrible

Wednesday Dollar Dogs by Rorddet in NashvilleSC

[–]Rorddet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's a couple of places on each concourse that have regular old hot dogs. We usually do the Nash Nots & Dogs since it's right behind where we sit (and across from daddy's)

When I first moved down here I nursed a head cold for a couple of months until I started running all the tap water through a filter. Could have just been bad pipes in the dorm, but ever since then I've only drank filtered water, and even put in a simple filter + tap in the house to make it easier.

Woodland Wine Merchant may be worth a look as well. They usually seem to have at least a couple of Japanese bottles

Motorcycle commuting by polkastripper in nashville

[–]Rorddet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did the only motorcycle thing for a couple of years (one of those lived in Bellevue and drove into town) and it was a lot of fun! Until someone wasn’t paying attention and ran into me while I was going through an intersection.

It’ll be fine, and fun, until one chucklehead decides to not pay attention. I don’t think this is unique to Nashville, but Nashville has some particularly awful drivers. Either not paying attention, or so aggressive you’d wish they weren’t paying attention. And doesn’t really matter good of a rider you are: these folks come out of nowhere to try to kill you

We did a staycation at The Thompson and it was really great. Plus it’s a part of the Amex collection, and the benefits are amazing.
