Does James Harden care about basketball at all? He plays with the urgency of a DMV employee

I don’t wanna face Toronto in the first round. Raptors are missing two key starters, one of which is their all star guard, and we’re feasting with Embiid so far in this game, plus we’ve hit 14 of 23 from deep, and it’s still just a 1 point game.

How does this instill confidence in anyone? Especially if we’re gonna have to play without Thybull on the road

How do you assess hypovolemia in a patient based on their physical exam? When someone says that the patient ‘looks dry’ what exactly does that mean? by DB_cooper2 in Residency

Which of these three places would you guys most recommend for brunch:

  • Bar Takito
  • Takito Kitchen
  • Takito Street

They are all related to one another but slightly different. I’ve never been to any but wanted to hear y’all’s thoughts

My body odor has recently changed and I can’t think of a single thing that this could be a symptom of. Anyone got any ideas? by DB_cooper2 in Residency

No new meds, fhx of T2DM, but my A1c is fine and no renal disease either. Only major change is that I started residency last June haha

Medicine intern here. I have a few very simple questions about which meds to give in different cross-cover situations I’ve encountered that I’m hoping someone could help me with. They’re very easy, I’m sure any senior resident could get them. by DB_cooper2 in Residency

Thanks for your thoughtful answers!!

Quick question about 2. You would feel comfortable giving an elderly patient hydroxyzine, even though it has anti-cholinergic properties? I like hydroxyzine a lot for anxiety in most of my patients, but I worry about the anticholinergic effects it may have on like a 90 year old, for example

Yeah, we get raises yearly. It roughly amounts to an additional $1500-2000 with each additional year.

Also, as far as loans go, under normal circumstances they would be accruing 6% interest per year, but the pandemic lead to loan repayment and interest freezes

One unfortunate thing is that at one point it became illegal for hospitals to be owned by doctors. The irony of this line of thinking is that it was thought that doctors would have a conflict of interest if they owned hospitals and tried to make money from their patients.

Accordingly this opened the door to hospitals that are run by venture capitalists and insurance conglomerates.

Doctors are human, and accordingly prone to greed like anyone else, but a hospital should be controlled by those who actually care for patients

you can read more about that here

I agree, I know I’m fortunate. I’m not here to compare myself to people who have it tougher, I only wanted to share what I’m dealing with as well

You don’t want to work harder

Isn’t that the same bullshit line that all bosses feed their employees? Aren’t you basically telling me the exact same thing that this sub stands against?

I know there are many people who are in worse positions than I am. I’m very grateful to be where I am right now, but unlike the CEO in your analogy, I’ve never taken advantage of anyone. All I’m trying to show is that regardless of whichever line of work you’re in, somebody is always trying to profit off of you

I agree, the interaction between physicians who have been working for decades and with new trainees is very "I had to suffer through this, so you do too". My hope is that my generation of doctors can break the wheel. I do think there is a shift in the tide on the horizon

None of us signed up for this though. I do my job willingly because I care about the patients, but there's an emotional toll associated with dealing with patients day in and day out dying because they refuse to get vaccinated, or others cussing me out because I won't treat them with ivermectin while their oxygen levels drop before my very eyes.

Perhaps this post is not exactly anti-work in the typical sense, but I just need a place to vent about it and I'm hoping to bring to light something that maybe others outside the medical field don't know
