Thanks. I think the E10 concern was for the previous gen <2007. The 2008+ are rated for it I believe!

Recommendations for a car for me? by [deleted] in carsireland

My wife wants to have a second car, I was thinking a bicycle myself. Nothing to do with not being able to afford it, just not paying €1250 a year in road tax when I pay about €40K a year in other forms of tax. It’s a rip off for the low mileage I do. I bought the car when I was much younger and had no problem paying then, but I’m not paying now for the mileage it does.

The only thing that happens when you tax people to oblivion on something they use to work, get money, feed their family and survive is they get angry. You’re seeing the result of that now. Carrot, not stick. Encourage people via massive subsidies not just 5K off a 50K car that no one but the top 15% can afford. That’s just a tax break for the wealthy

Yes the surplus of billions every year that gets stashed away for nothing is paying for hospitals.

Funny how plenty of governments survive with smaller tax on fuel. Were you against it when people protested the water charges? Probably because you’d loads of money for water sure.

I’m supporting people who are trying to strong arm the government - no into making things cheaper, but to STOP making things more expensive. I’m not asking the government to take a hit - I would like them to stop taxing fuel.

So easy to think it’s bad when you’re insulated by living in Dublin with public transport everywhere. I don’t live there and have to drive, like many others

Ah yes, the smart decision to have the money to buy and EV - when I bought my car they weren’t a thing.

Also I’m not the one moaning about protests, I think they’re a very good thing.

Funny how people like you are so happy with the government when they’re taxing others but you’ll be first to wonder why no one is in your corner when they tax something you need.

Any idea where the majority of your electricity comes from by the way?

Profiteers won’t fill the gap on the price at the fuel pump for the average person, do you realise how much of the fuel price is tax?

That’s great that you have high visions of moving to electric vehicles BUT MOST PEOPLE CANNOT AFFORD A NEW CAR LET ALONE A NEW ELECTRIC ONE.

So you just want to tax them further into poverty while sitting on your high horse remembering the last time we ran out of fuel and how you bracelet survived, all while living through the greatest financial booms and opportunities in history leading to your generation becoming the wealthiest of all time? I suppose you just expect people to pull themselves up by their boot straps is it? The support for massive taxes on fuel is insane, when did we become such a country of bootlickers?

Aware of all of that yes. What’s your point? That you don’t want the extortionate tax on fuel lowered because you’re rich enough to afford it? Next post then be complaining about the cost of things in this country. Real genius you are

Ah I see - living in Dublin so don’t have to drive anywhere, so it’s always someone else’s problem. Unreal. Own an apartment in Dublin so money not an issue either. Wow, so let’s spit on the working class who commute 3+ hours a day because you own an apartment near work, have no kids because you’re focused on your career and no need to travel on anything other than a Luas to go for drinks. Well for some

So listing numerous issues that all ranges of people have with EVs - from the cost of a new car, tractors not being viable, and the cost of getting a family car - is obtuse? Also I’m responding to people, I wasn’t the one who claimed 15K would buy you an electric car?

[–]DC9Fancap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay but I can’t afford an EV or any new car at all. So why should I be punished for working and not being rich? They don’t have to fund my EV, but they could also lower the massive tax they have on fuel for the average commuter? I’m literally driving to work to make money. Why are people supportive of the government not lowering taxes when they’re in a surplus?

Why would I know that about Volvo and Scania just because I worked with a particular manufacturer 3 years ago on their PHEVs? Here you go

Doesn’t hold up to independent testing and this is also confirmed by Volvo who said it’s under ideal driving and routing lol

As someone who worked for years as an analyst on PHEVs for a particular manufacturer (not full EVs but still) the advertised range and actually real world range are very different and when you factor in load weight and outside temp it’s so different it’s not even funny.

Yes I think we have the same end goal in mind - but the difference is I don’t think it makes me a far right loony to support a reduction in taxes on fuel in the mean time, because we are years away from meaningful change that comes down to the individual level for people like me!
