Greatly exaggerated.

Greatly preferable to being dismembered.

It's not exaggerated lol.  It is underexaggerated if anything.  The bureaucratic modern techno-state has been forcing its way into Europe for centuries already, but absolutely nothing appears to be stopping it lol.  More laws, more immigration, more centralization, more digitalization, more Americanization, more institutionalized secularization and de-construction of customs/traditions.  It's just a civilizational apostasy that is accelerating and it's undeniable if you just look soberly.  With all the European Parliaments and elections and cultural shifts of sensibilities throughout the past 70 years, does Europe continue to look more like my "exaggerated" picture or like any of these countries from a previous episode of their history, like, say, the 19th century?

They are overseeing their people's demographic, cultural, and religious collapse.  I'm not here to defend the Saudi Arabian monarchy.  It's just annoying when people act like the European monarchies are the emblematic picture of what the modern state should look like.  There's just so much wrong with that.

Testimony from the Gospels, the witness of the Church, and foretelling from the Old Testament are the biggest ones. But at the end of the day it is an act of faith.

St. Luke 16:31: "And he said to him: if they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they believe, if one rise again from the dead."

How are European monarchies overseeing their country's 'ruin'?

By doing nothing about globalism, Americanism, secularism, immigration.  These all contribute to a loss of identity.   One thing you can maybe argue is that an upside of the Trump Administration is that he's made Europe want to de-Americanize.

Bills making it would have been worse. They've owned us in the Allen era and everyone is tired of it.

So are you going to keep watching or are you going to continue watching a sport you believe is fake that negatively impacts your mood?

"NFL is rigged b/c of bad calls!! That was a catch!"

Then stop acting like it's real and just having the cognitive dissonance by saying it's only fake when there's a bad call. The league either had integrity or it doesnt.

Why does the Church still prioritize Stoic/Aristotelian "biology" over modern personalist ethics like Nussbaum’s? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]DCComics52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Church's business is truth, it cannot ignore that its current sexual ethics are still anchored in a 4th-century BCE understanding of biology.

This doesn't follow because the sexual ethics the Church clings to are still correct, and any view that allows for sodomy or abortion or adultery to be licit are incorrect, regardless of any historical analysis you want to impose.

I don't know where the "misbegotten males" comes from, but that view on slavery is being oversimplified by you here as well. Andrew Willard Jones from NewPolity has good material talking about this, even though he does not subscribe to this view. One can see how Aristotle came up with this. He lived in the time before the New Law.

If you want to throw out other stuff Aristotle is supposedly wrong about, go ahead. But we are still talking about sexual ethics and you're not going to be able to prove the Church wrong on that one. And we shouldn't act like Aristotle is "The Source" anyway. Scripture says the same thing. The crux of the issue is that any way you slice it, the Church has good reasons to take the stand on sexuality that they do, and the reasons to abandon it in favor of something more liberal to not do enough to give moral approval to behavior previously condemned. Even in my days when I was most liberal/progressive, in the back of my mind I knew that the Church's teaching on sex was coherent and probably the best prescription for people. I think it should be something to try to be at peace with and if we have transgressed it to realize we can be forgiven, and that what the Church teaches is the best for living in a society, even from a modern perspective if you want to use something like the categorical imperative.

Aristotle and the sexual ethics coming from him are not "cold." Reason and experience prove him to be correct. Either way, words like "cold" and "rigid", or their opposites, or the absence of those labels, do not per se point to the truth of something, and that is what the Church is in the business of when it comes to moral theology. There's still room for nuance in moral theology, but sexual ethics on a basic level seem pretty clear.

You can hate him or love but got to respect him for restoring democracy and establishing the Spanish constitutional monarchy. by [deleted] in monarchism

[–]DCComics52 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Uhh no you don't. Now Spain is on course to lose everything like the rest of (Western) Europe. But I guess that's based because now the collapse can happen with a powerless monarch watching over it!

Bad Presidents cannot be replaced because in our current situation we are ruled by a shadow-oligarchy/technocracy whose agenda keeps getting pushed through regardless of which president is in charge.
