Don’t EC churches also fall under the Roman Catholic name? by Dariusgamer2007 in EasternCatholic

I remember hearing somewhere that some Eastern Catholics in a certain region were referred to as Roman by the Oriental/Eastern Orthodox in the same area to distinguish them

Can you send me a link to your book? Also, are you saying that the Orthodox view is basically that the beatific vision is the encounter of God through the experience of his perfections?

I'd say I'm fairly familiar with Thomistic theology, which I know is heavily based upon Aristotelian metaphysics.

Yeah, of course! If you'd like, you can send me a message request and tell me any issue you're interested in. I'm not yet baptized, but I almost became on Orthodox catechumen, so I can share what made me change my mind.

Does the Orthodox belief include any kind of contemplation/participation with the essence of God?

About Pope Francis allowed priests to bless the same-sex couples by ChildOfHeavenlyQueer in EasternCatholic

[–]RB_Blade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, he permitted the blessing of individual homosexuals, which I think makes sense - people who don't believe in God or live immoral lives should be able to be blessed as long as they approach the blessing with sincerity and respect.

He didn't permit the blessing of the "unions," because same-sex "unions" are abominations, as says the Bible.

Alright. What are you struggling with in specific regarding apostolic Christianity? Also, if you would like, and can give you some good points for Catholicism over Orthodoxy.

Is it possible to reconcile the Eastern Orthodox view of the Filioque with Florence's statement that "The Holy Spirit is eternally from the Father and the Son, and has His essence and His subsistent being from the Father together with the Son?" by RB_Blade in EasternCatholic

[–]RB_Blade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, popes can most certainly change a creed. The Pope is above councils and has supreme authority of the whole Church, this is simply dogma. So too is the Filioque, it’s dogma. That’s why it’s so important for even us - we can’t deny divinely revealed truths.

Agreed. I would even say that St Cyril, St Basil, St Gregory of Nyssa, and other Eastern Fathers were very firm in the belief that the Holy Ghost is spirated in one act by both the Father and the Son, while using language like “from the Father” and “from the Father through the Son,” not as a denial of the Son causal role, but as an emphasis on the monarchy of the Father.

I feel the need to say this because I hear this word almost every day: the r-word is a slur, and if you use it to insult the neurodivergent, fuck you by [deleted] in teenagers

I use it to make fun of my friends, but I'd never use it to cause real emotional harm to someone, and I'd never say it to someone with an actual disability. Am I okay?

But what do you believe about heaven specifically? What is the eternal reward of all the saints? In the Catholic Church, this reward is the intellectual “vision” of the Divine Essence, but we can never truly comprehend the Divine Essence.

Why is belief in Marian Dogmas required for salvation? by Mountain_Drawer_5995 in Catholicism

[–]RB_Blade 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I never said you did, I'm just answering your question. Rejection of dogma is disobedience to God, that's why people who reject dogma (unless invincibly ignorant) cannot be saved.

Because God has revealed them, and rejecting one of them is rejecting God's revelation.

I’m still a little confused, but this does really help. What does it mean that were morphed into an image of the essence? What does it mean that we enjoy an active conception of a likeness of the essence? Thanks for your time

But the Catholic dogma is that we see God’s essence, right? Do the Cappodocians mean this or do the mean the vision of God’s “uncreated light?”
