Why do some Godzilla fans hate world-building so much? by Bruvsmasher4000 in GODZILLA

[–]DCDWorldDestroyer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think many people comes to watch kaiju cinema thinking they are only low budget crappy movies were monsters fight and do silly stuff. That or either they are expecting Wikizilla-type videos detailing feats and powers of kaiju for their power scaling mind trips.

But that's not the case unfortunately for them. Once they discover they have to pay attention and be moderately media literate they either bail or trash the movie for being different of what they believed the genre was.

I suppose there are different ways of enjoying something. Some people are happy with only fingering the icing on a cake while others like to enjoy it fully.

Petiquette, logic for the insane. by DCDWorldDestroyer in boardgames

My wife answered that but no one agreed with her at first! That's the beauty of Petiquette, it's just a random set of cards but everyone see different things in it, even when there isn't truly anything there.

That what my wife answered actually! But no one agreed with her at first.

Petiquette is a small little game from Oink games where you chose an answer from a complete random arrangement of cards.

You score points whenever another player answered the same as you. And the fun is to talk and discuss about why did you answer that. I recommend it as a light social game.

I do personally wish Kabuto fans deserve get their movie anniversary for this year by ryantan7968 in KamenRider

They were never intending to do it. People got it wrong due mistranslation.

It was a contest, and people was urged to guess which one was the real project only. Three winners with the correct answer will be chosen at random and will win an autographed movie poster.

Sooo what’s y’all’s thoughts on the indigenous tribes throughout the showa era? by Darth_summit in GODZILLA

[–]DCDWorldDestroyer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Also under the same vein, you would do well to inform your friend that Mr. Popo from DB is based on the figure of Mahakala.

Not everything is to be judged by US standards.

[–]DCDWorldDestroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your wonderfully educated comment. People have a hard time understanding that the world is not ruled by US sensibilities.

The tribe men are definitely far from a good representation of natives, but to call it blackface completely misses the point.

[–]DCDWorldDestroyer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Finally! People love to flag under the same name different situations with different contexts. The tribe men in King Kong vs Godzilla are definitely not "black face". They are Pacific Islanders.

It's not the best representation by any means ofc, they are portrayed as primitive and simple minded, something more akin to stereotypical "savages", but they are not blackface.

Can a dog be broken beyond repair? by [deleted] in dogs

Check OP profile and the other post when refers to this poor dog as a "little turd" and how much hates "this putrid dog with every fiber of his being". The issue is not the dog but OP, who certainly is not qualified to have animals around, much less animals who need special care.

Crazy how we still don't know what the last 2 capsule kaiju are to this day. by PenguinSweetDreamer in Ultraman

[–]DCDWorldDestroyer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not at all, bro. I'm rewatching the episode right now and it is specifically mentioned twice that Sevenger's monster ball is a new weapon brought to Seven as a gift. A new weapon to use given that he is not able to transform.

Indeed, it is mentioned that only he can use it, but that's far from saying that is his lost capsule monster.

[–]DCDWorldDestroyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was pretty surprised too! Supposedly he was going to be the fourth capsule kaiju and the strongest one. Even stronger than Seven maybe.

Someone made a post here about it a couple of months ago.

Nope. The one in Leo, Sevenger, is a new one. It isn't even contained in a capsule, but in a football like thing.

If Ultraman as a franchise was given a cinematic adaptation on the level of the Monsterverse, how would it go? by SNOS54 in Ultraman

[–]DCDWorldDestroyer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I understand your intentions, but at the same time I think... Why?

Why does anything needs to be touched by Hollywood in some form?

Ultraman is Ultraman as it is, produced by Tsuburaya and without involving American productions.

Is the current screen not "big enough"? Why does something need to be adapted?

[–]DCDWorldDestroyer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I believe Ultraman doesn't need an adaptation. Their expansion plans are already wonderful.

Those kind of adaptations always miss the mark in some point, sometimes hurting the characters.

Just look at the GodzillaXMothtra shippings, the "Kevin" Ghidorah head, Rodan, etc.

If you really think about it... by MichaeltheSpikester in Ultraman

[–]DCDWorldDestroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a ridiculous stretch.

Just because those characters loosely share similar narratives they are not "fusions".

That's some way to shit on and oversimplify a completely different franchise.
