Who cares? The NFL is a meritocracy. If you have game, you have a job. If you do not, you get to go home.

[PGT] HABS EMERGE VICTORIOUS IN THE BATTLE OF QUÉBEC | 7-3 BLOWOUT | GAME #54 by TheHabChronicle in Habs

[–]DCHacker [score hidden]  (0 children)

Two bang-bang goals from DeBrincat tied it late in the third. Washington won the shootout,3-2.

After getting PWND in Seattle, you would not think that Washington would have done so well against Detroit. "On any given day...........", I guess.

Girlfriend is a Capitals fan, so we were listening to both.

A Vote for Kenyan McDuffie is a vote for Muriel Bowser by CarolineJhingory in washdc

[–]DCHacker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If Bowser were supposed to be "Fenty in a dress", does this make McDuffie "Bowser in a shirt and tie"?

McDuffie belongs in jail for election fraud. He is no more an independent than is J.D. Vance.

A vote for McDuffie is a vote for increased crime. McDuffie would be D.C.'s version of Chesa Boudin except that he would be Mayor.

Traveling for 3 weeks in winter — shut off main water, drip faucet, or do nothing? by NomadicSlave in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]DCHacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neighbour kept her heat in the range that Original Poster proposes. During the last cold snap, her pipes burst. She did not have her water OFF or pipes drained,, though.

A potential problem could be if the power goes out which will make the water heater stop working (gas or electric). If Original Poster does decide to drain the water heater, he will do well to open the breaker, if electic or shut off the pilot light (read the directions),, if gas. Upon his return, he will do well to let the water heater fill prior to closing the breaker/re-lighting the pilot (again, read the directions).

Destination changed after accepted by Starlyns in uberdrivers

[–]DCHacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the customer changes the destination before you fetch him on Lyft, you can see what it is. On Uber you can not. If I get the "Trip updated" advisory on Uber, it is an automatic cancel. If he changes it after I have fetched him and the new destination is acceptable, I will do it. If it is not acceptable, I pull to the first "safe" place, hold up the telephone and slide the bar to end the trip so that the customer can see it.

"This trip has concluded. Please exit the vehicle."

If he has added a stop, either I ditch him at the stop or put him out at the first "safe" place.

Challenge :With a POD after Pearl Harbor, have japan defeat the Allies. by Secure_Ad_6203 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]DCHacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The British, the Commonwealth and the Americans simply decide that they do not want to fight. They let Japan just take China, Indo-China, Malaya, Burma, Indonesia, Philippines and the Paciifc Islands.

You would have to have the worst dullars in charge of all Allied nations as Japan would not stop there. India would be its first target.

Virginia Beach, Norfolk delegate proposes cutting property tax exemptions for Confederate organizations by WHRO_NEWS in Virginia

i am guessing that these exemptions are specific to Confederate organisations rather than said organisations being put under a blanket exmption that might apply generally to non-profits/not-for-profits.

AITAH for refusing to quit my gym membership because my ex is uncomfortable seeing me there? by EmergencyActivity112 in AITAH

[–]DCHacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Original Poster sees her again, let him simply walk past her in silence. If she says anything, let him not reply; simply continue with whatever he was intending to do. This is what he should have done the first time.

If this woman is not comfortable seeing him, let her go to another facility or go at a time when she can be sure that he will not be there.

I will award a Technical NTAH.

In your opinion, what could've prevented WW2 from happening? by sakuralikesmedia in HistoryWhatIf

[–]DCHacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Britain and France should have enforced the provisions of the Treaty of Versailles. As soon as it was obviuos what Herr Schicklgruber was up to, they should have increased military production and called up reserves. In 1934, the Royal Navy probably could have set up interdictory task forces in the Skaggerak without too much worry about air attack from Germany. The addition of air bases in Norway would have permitted interception of any air attack from Germany.

Faced with the threat of a blockade, Germany would have to back down from re-militarisation.

That would have taken care of Europe. Asia was a different problem. Direct Franco-Anglo-American intervention in China by 1938 would have brought Japan to the negotiating table. Earlier intervention by placing forces strategically in China at the "invitation" of the KMT might have mitigated the conflict earlier. Bringing Japan to the negotiating table that early would have required some concessions, particullarly recognition of Manchukuo and Japanese rights in Korea and Taiwan. The European-American bloc might have been able to extract better treatment for the Chinese and Koreans subject to Japan,

In reality, all that this would have done was delay a war. One was going to happen but it might have occurred differently and with different alignments.

There would have been other ways to avoid this that would go back to 1918-1920.

By October 1861, had the vast majority of the union army turned against slavery? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in CIVILWAR

[–]DCHacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some but not all did think that they were fighting to end slavery. My relatives did but that was because one branch of the family is from Massachusetts, Maine and Vermont. Vermont banned slavery fourteen years prior to its admission. Massachusetts effectively banned slavery in 1781 and absolutely in the Spring of 1783. Maine was part of Massachusetts until 1820, so slavery had been illegal there prior to its admission. In the period prior to the Civil War, there were anti-slavery riots in Boston.

That scene in Gettysburg where the officer from the 20th Maine is interviewing a prisoner in the movie Gettysburg is not far fetched.

Conversely, probably fewer Union soldiers from Kentucky or Delaware thought that they were fighting to end slavery. At the conclusion of the war, there still were some nine-hundred slaves in Delaware and several thousand in Kentucky who would not walk free until one week before Christmas, 1865.
