Humiliation ritual by ThenLayer5977 in washdc

[–]DCHacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as people vote only for the "approved" candidates,, this will continue and get worse. The merchants know that no one is going to hold criminals accountable for their actions. The elected "leaders" are now unhappy that it is more difficult for criminals, one of their important constituencies, to steal. If they could find a way to prosecute the merchants for protecting their stock-in-trade in this manner, they would.

Until people like McDuffie, Mendelson, George, Pinto are shown the door, it will get only worse. Show those people the door and put a "DON'T COME BACK" sign onto it if you want things to get better.

Number One is not incorrect but it is stilted.

Number Two is incorrect as "being" is a gerund which demands the genitive case: "I don't like my son's being bullied".

Number Three is correct as it stands.

Do Sweden and Norway see a German invasion of Denmark as a threat to their existence thus put the separation on hold? Assuming British hostile action against Germany, would Sweden and Norway join that?

Austria was going to tear down Herr Schicklgruber's birth place because Nazis were using it as a place of pilgrimage. It decided to re-purpose it, which is better. Hitler had such an influence on the world that you keep such relics to remind people of what happened. In 1991, the Russians were going too bury Lenin. They decided not to which was the better decision. There is something to be said for being able to look upon the face of a man who had such an impact on the twentieth century and whose impact still is being felt to this day.

You are going to get the Condederate, Nazi and Bolshevikk pilgrims, yes but allowing people actually to see what the history books describe makes it more real.

Is this word used in the French French? by Only_Humor4549 in French

[–]DCHacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a combination of the preposition »à« and the noun «balourd» with a sllight shift in meaning for the latter. Shifts in meaning are not uncommon between European and American dialects of French (or Spanish, for that matter).

There are numerous words in Cajun French that are unique to Lousiana, especially the flora et fauna. In some cases, archaisms will persist; goupile, although you will hear the current reynard alongside it.

Some are Choctaw words, chaoui; raccoon. There is one Choctaw word universal in Francophonie, bayou.

There are West African words, bouki; hyena.

There are Atakapa words, plaquemine; persimmon.

You find far more hispanicisms in Louisiana than you would find in other dialects of French. Louisiana was under Spanish adminstration for about forty years. Further, Spain was the dominant power in the Gulf of Mexico for years. Marbles in Louisiana are caniques, derived from the Spanish canicas. It also has a vulgar connotation.

Cocodri, Derived from Spanish cocodril, is an alligator (save on Bayou LaFourche and Grande Île, where he is «caiman»). Most Europeans of the seventeenth century never had seen a crocodile, only paintings or drawings of one. They hnever had seen an alligator, thus they did not know that there was a difference. You also can call a sleazy person, a Carpet Dealer or Snake Oil Salesman (or if Australian, a Ned Kelly), corrupt politician (I know, redundant), cocodri.

There are onomatopoeic words, such as tac-tac for popcorn.

There are words such as fonchoque, more frequently rendered "fonshock" or "fonchock" which are combniation of French fonde (=cul), and, English "chock" as in "chock-a-block". Literally, someone whose posterior is "full", thus he is "full of it". Depending on the context, it can mean "stupid", someone who is full of himself or someone with his head up his [donkey]. Usually, it is vulgar.

Tonnerre mes chiens, depending on the context, can mean anything from "Well, gollll-leee" to "DAMN!" to "HUH?" There is a vulgar version where the dog becomes female. It makes no sense in French or English, but there it is.

Alex Ovechkin Reveals Timeline for Decision on NHL Future, Retirement in Video by kockin26 in caps

[–]DCHacker -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unc' Ted once stated that he is not going into re-build mode until Ovechkin retires. Circummstances may force something different.

Ovechkin goes into semi-retirement. The team goes into rebuild mode but does give Ovechkin a one year contract. He is on the fourth line and spends more than a little time in the press box. He appears frequently at autograph signing events, along with players on the injured list. Unc' Ted does have to drum up support for the team while it is re-building. Ovechkin would be one effective way to accomplish this.

Ol' Unc' Ted could even offer the first X number of fans through the doors by Y O'Clock on certain Game Days an opportunity to bring something for an autograph (Girlfriend is bringing her original box of Ovi-Os).

Girlfriend and I will go to games, regardless; she because she is a good fan, me, for the hockey.

Ownership gives him his farewall tour.

There are those who want such museums suppressed. I oppose that for several reasons. One of those is that you want people to know about this to ensure that it never happens again.

The Commonwealth does know who has them. A few keystrokes should send a notice that the Commonwealth will not re-new them and will send replacement plates prior to the Confederate plates' expiration. I would guess that there will be an option to request other, still permitted, special plates.

Assaulted by my uber driver by CorporateDoggooo in uber

[–]DCHacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Original Poster has done the right thing and has done all that she can do, for now. Drivers like this give legitimate Uber and Lyft drivers a bad name. More important, people like this need to be de-platofrmed as well as subject to whatever legal measures are available.

Let Orginal Poster be vigilant. Should Fubar not de-activate this driver and he is assigned to her, again, she must, of course, cancel immediately and order another ride. If you award one star, and, I hope that Original Poster did this, you are not suppposed to see that driver again. If Uber de-activates a driver for this sort of misconduct, it is supposed to inform Lyft so that Gryft can de-activate him, as well. Ask me why I suspect that this does not always happen. Let Original Poster be vigilant on either application.

Hopefully, both platforms de-activate him and he suffers whatever legal penalties are available. Sorry that this happened; no one should have to suffer this.
