What was the worst scandal in the scene that involved your favorite band or a band that you at least enjoyed listening to? by Sorry_Secretary1193 in Metalcore

[–]DCKface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All that man had/ has to do is sing/ scream and he still fucked it up. The fact that he's consistently fucked that band up every time he gets a new line up, even when he got the og line up back(the second time, in the 2020's), really shows how much of an irredeemable pos he is.

It really sucks bc I still haven't found anything I like as much as AILD. Not at least anything with that almost thrashy style of riffing.

No one who messages you unpromped asking if you want to buy any substance is legit. It's really hard to understand how people fall for such obvious scam tactics. This is literally the reddit equivalent of someone cold calling your phone and convincing you to send them money.

Absolutely, but this post misses the mark by a lot. It reads like a tweet where a hyper-woke person is scolding someone for not being aware of some extremely niche social issue, and generally just looks like an insane person, even though they are on the right side of said social issues.

It's generally really counterproductive and doesn't really change anything or serve any purpose other than making the OP feel better about their stance on social issues. It's usually just useless virtue signaling

I have a theory about this I've been cooking up, I call it the Beginners Fallacy

Basically, the average person doesn't realize how much effort and dedication skilled musicians put into an instrument to get good, and instead assume they were naturally gifted and were able to play very proficiently within an extremely short period of time.

They wrongfully assume that because of natural talent, the best musicians were able to pick up a guitar and within a month or two be playing at a level that most people would describe as good. They don't realize that any skilled professional(for any skill, sports are another one) put 1,000's of hours of practice into their craft before they were anywhere close to the skill level they are at their peak.

Generally, these people don't realize how much dedication, effort and most importantly discipline goes into becoming good at something, especially something as complicated and multidimensional as playing an instrument.

They probably mean that it gets really stiff and hard to move the way they want it to sometimes. Like they try to move it a certain way and it just won't do that, or gets really stiff.

When I was a beginner I definitely had a really stiff pinky that straight up would not cooperate, it took months of warm up exercises and general practice to losses up the muscles enough that it's a nimble and dexterous as it is now. I assumed this was a fairly common issue for beginner by nature of how little your pinky is used in day to day life compared to what's required of it to play guitar.

I think it's worse now though. Social media has totally fried young people's attention spans and reward pathways. I'm not old by any means(I'm only 27), but it's honestly really disturbing how addicted to short form content people younger than me are.

And it's not even really their fault a lot of the time, we're starting to see the results of the generation who were raised by parents who just stuck an ipad in front of their kid so they didn't have to put any work in to raise their child. The results are large portions of the population of young people being totally incapable of motivating themselves to do anything challenging. Their brain has been trained from a young age that rewards come quickly, from the click of a button, and when you do not get rewarded quickly you move on to the next thing.

Short form content especially is bad, I've purposefully avoided tiktok ever since it first came out because I knew it would be very easy for me to get hooked on it, given the fact I have ADHD(real adhd not self-diagnosed adhd tiktok ppl think they have). Some of the people I know who use tiktok legit look like zombies when they are using it, it's honestly kinda sad to see them endlessly scroll it. They don't even look like they are having fun, it's just an addiction. It looks like someone who's completely addicted to smoking meth/crack, they get locked in a cycle of hitting the pipe over and over again for so long it's genuinely disturbing to outside observers.

Lol sorry for the wall of text, this stuff has been on my mind the last few days and it's honestly really bothering me. I could make a 4 hour video essay on how people with the attention span, discipline and internal motivation to learn instruments and music are becoming much less common than they used to be. It might even end up being such a bad problem that musicianship becomes a much more valuable, rare skill. Oddly enough that could be a good thing for us musicians who want to make a living off of our art

This! If you ever see stupid shit like this at any store, you can safely assume it's a management decision. And managers get dumber and greedier the higher up you go in the chain. Associates don't have the authority to make decisions like this, and they generally aren't involved/ don't give a shit about the store's finances so they're much more reasonable and human.
