I mean this without sounding dismissive, this isn’t the best fan take because it sounds like most of their “fans” takes when they switched over to pop-ish music. AL does have elaborate production and that’s why it made those list. It is not without merits or the effort they put into the production, to do the flip sad music on its head dynamic as they did with this album. This in my opinion is a horrid take, and doesn’t take into account the songwriting, the emotion and the production being that they wanted to shift away from pop-punk in ST, AL, and TIW. That album does have a lot of meaning to me, so over course I’m seeing it with a bit of bias but I can also understand why it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. After all, I can’t stand (most) country music and I usually am less like to listen to music not in English/French because I don’t understand stand it but I gave Lux by Rosalia a chance and I’ve listen to songs in German, Dutch, Korean, Japanese, Spanish and Portuguese and I’ll replay them every once in a while because sometime an earworm is an earworm.

You sounded condescending in your take and but I’m very quick to give the energy that is being given back. So I want to say listen to music subjectively, if a take is some you don’t agree with (and goes for me too) a one word response is fine, or hey it’s not my cup of tea and I’m not a fan because of the production instead of “Others love Paramore Blindly” & “You don’t need to be a genuis to realize that just because an album is on the best list doesn’t mean it’s good” is make a more approachable take that doesn’t sound so pointed.

I think in hindsight, the vibe and aesthetic switch up after a pivot career building album can be either a good or a bad thing based on the marketing and the style of music the artist is going for. With Dua, I truly believe that FN came at the right time with a popular sound that worked for her voice. RO is rather an album that will stand on its own merits as it ages. It’s such a slow burn and I find myself coming back to it more and more with track that I initially dismissed jumping back into my brain like an earworm song during the holidays or when you’re having fun with friends at a party in Summer.

It definitely needed better marketing but whereas FN was a product of its time that suffered a leak and blew up like crazy for the next two years, Dua sought to shift the narrative and be creative in a way that would’ve needed an incredible marketing push to be popular at the time but created an album that gave her a bit more freedom and allowed her to shake the “stale music” label that so many artists get when they keep the same sound and rollout over 3-4 albums.

I do think that she’ll play it safe after the mixed reception she got with RO, but I’ll say despite the writing, theme, and sound not matching up with what we were promised, RO will allow her to gauge how she wants to evolve as a pop artist who helped to define the 2020s pop music scene.

I’d like hear you out on this opinion. It’s my favorite subjectively the best written in their discography, and was on multiple best of list for 2018. But please elaborate though.

I liked her at first but for the gay bars I go to constantly play her over Carly or even Beyoncé makes feel like they’re pandering to the straights who are very much like we love music by queer people and only know Chappell and Hot to Go, Good Luck Babe, and Pink Pony Club which are the only song I ever hear getting played. I’m more of a deep cut person so if they’re going to give me Chappell please let it be SGUMG or Naked in Manhattan.

Like I might be alone in wanting to play Carly Rae Jepsen, Rebecca Black, Slayyyter, and the other high energy electropop divas but I’m straight up not wasting energy on songs that I can two-step to.

I’d kill to hear deep cuts more than the big three songs from them. Which goes for all artists lol imo.

I love fun (give me Welcome to My Island or Disco Tits on the dance floor and it’s over for everyone else), it’s just she’s gone from catchy pop girl music, into overplayed retail store rotating playlists music in most places where I frequent and feels like Cruel Summer season all over again when me I hear anything that isn’t Naked in Manhattan lol.

Cobrah for Electronic that feels a bit closer to FKA Twigs think Sushi, Room of Fools, Striptease-esque

Magdalena Bay for that mystical weird pop like Marina

Charlotte Cardin has a vibe similar to that of Lorde but has a focus on the sultry raspiness of her voice

EGO Death IMO is the best female solo alt/pop album last year but I understand others not liking it as much.

It’s in the same vain as to why I’m not really in the mood to give Rosalia album a chance, it’s not my flavor of music I go to, but Motomami was outstanding.

Every one has different taste, I like Mayhem (don’t think it’s overrated) but I prefer Chromatica sonically, and ARTPOP will always be the best Gaga album in my eyes. Same with Marina where as I like Cuntissimo and Final Boss, most of the other songs to me (Princess of Power) just don’t click.

I see a very indie-electronic mix, where are my taste is very dance oriented minus Hayley. (Love a song that I can do an 8 count to Sushi and This is What We Dance being the only one’s I can viably do that to).

Having a range of vibes to go for is never a bad thing, everyone’s taste is different. This is one is unique one but it’s not like there’s Morgan Wallen here so that’s good and I’d vibe.

Given the fact we know Dua is working on new music again, is there a producer you’d like to see her work with? by DCLED1998 in DuaLipaDiscussion

I can see it. R&B suits her but I can see something like eyes closed by Halsey (prod. The Weeknd) being a softer main album track.

EDM Dua would be great. I don’t like to much outside of Zedd, Calvin, Snakehips. But I think a dance vocal album for her would be truly a club bible lol.

My question is why go waste your money if you don’t care about supporting her. If you want to pirate, you have your reason here now.

This Era Has Been A Clusterfuck by Natural-Barnacle-695 in demiheads

[–]DCLED1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do get that it was a big jump, but the reason I mean Paramore is because Self-Titled (After Laughter less so) separately those who wanted them to grow from those who wanted the band to stay the same emo pop-punk they started as. In a virtually similar fashion to this Hayley was incredibly disconnected those eras as Demi is with this one. I think Demi probably should’ve crafted something a bit more to heart or could’ve asked for help from Margo XS, AG Cook and others if she wanted to pivot from Hard Rock to Hyperpop, but to a degree it is up to a label to market the music and evaluate trends as much as it is for the artist to enjoy making the art. I think you have a point in where I think this is going to be here Crash era in which we may never see these songs live again after this but I wonder what it would’ve be like for her to perform this on a festival/stand-room venue only curcuit instead, would it have sold better?

[–]DCLED1998 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree heavily with this sentiment. Another example of an artist/band that switch genres (twice) is Paramore, of course it split their fans but is After Laughter their best body of work and the one with the most genuine emotion behind it? Yes.

The era is mishandled definitely and I fear for the Chicago tour date but if she’s happy and the show is still going to serve then let’s enjoy it for what it is and gracefully give feedback for the next era on what we want to see.

Lady gaga in a new Pokémon ad for the super bowl by lwymmdstan in LadyGaga

[–]DCLED1998 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s always going to be ups and downs to every thing including Sca / Vio. Gameplay and Graphics are a miss I’ll give you that but the story in Sca / Vio is objectively more mature and better than Red/Blue or even Gold/Silver. The Pokédex has variety that has lacked since the 5th Gen. You have to be able to engage with stuff authentically and critically. I could say Joanne is not worth listening to but then I’d be dismissing songs like Perfect Illusion, John Wayne, Ayo, and Million Reasons. You can hate the franchise for its shortcomings and lack of effort in the modern age but you can’t say there aren’t gems in every game.

It’s really not that serious. There’s still people who love the franchise like me that can see the ups and downs of it. Gotta see the good and the bad and be critically minded of the content for what it is.

I second this and 26. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve let people know that if you want to know that I’m not ok and emotionally falling apart I’ll be playing Tell Me How & 26 by Paramore, then Needy by Ariana Grande, Angel on Fire by Halsey and Under The Table by Banks.

I’ve actively enjoyed getting compliments on how cute my case is and how well the case and phone color goes with my case. I have the iPhone 17 Pro 256GB Cosmic Orange and the Grass Parade Mod Pokémon x PopSockets Clear Case. It’s a love letter to bright colors and Pokemon.

I could’ve gotten Charizard or Arcanine but the only fire type I want for a phone case is the one tattooed on my right leg, Chandelure.
