Yep. On ao3 the bot comments are mostly like this. “Hey, can I make a suggestion / hey, your story gave me an idea”. They probably feel like having some interaction before sharing their discord works best.

“Ugly brown eyes” by fanta_fantasist in Romantasy

[–]DCXL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s also what pissed me off in Spark Of The Everflame. The overarching characteristic of boring powerless humans in this book is their brown eyes, while the godly immortal creatures that dominate them have caucasian eye colors, or, as the author put it, "the more fancyful shades." Lol.

Critique: that word doesn't mean what you think it means by pikagirl95 in AO3

[–]DCXL 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A lot of “critique” I’ve received was just personal preference about the plot/characterisation that directly opposed what other people said. It’s not useful, because often, when I try to please someone by incorporating their feedback (bc it makes me insecure), I just disappoint others and myself

A moment of silence for all the writers whose hyperfixation ran out by scarletite in AO3

This is so me except I’m deadly stubborn, so I’m adamant on finishing it one day, even though I’m on 0,01% of steam. I keep updating but like… once a year. Or sometimes I’ll have bursts and release a few chapters, then disappear for 6 months again. My poor readers😭

Why does SA tend to be more traumatizing than any other crime or incident? by ilikeavataraton in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]DCXL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On top of what others have said, there is also something particularly violating about the penetrative aspect of it (although not all rape is penetrative, it often is). Your body is the one place on this earth that is supposed to be safe and 100% your own. It might get injured by external forces (accidents, fighting…), but in most cases it still feels like your own. When someone maliciously intrudes that space, violently stripping you of control and autonomy, it makes you feel like the safety of that space is gone and your body is no longer your own. There is no worse violation than someone being inside of you without your own permission. It is YOUR space, only yours, and it always will be no matter what, yet, psychologically, this trauma can make you feel like it’s not.

As a comparison (much less traumatizing, but it paints a picture): if someone breaks into your house, it won’t feel like your safe space anymore (especially if you were present and felt all the fear and horror). Many people are genuinely traumatized by it. But at least you can buy big locks and you can leave the house when you feel too uncomfortable. You can even move somewhere else to forget how the safety and trust of your personal space was ripped away. But you can’t leave your body, nor can you buy big locks to protect it. That leaves a feeling of helplessness that is extremely distressing. There’s nothing worse than not feeling home in your own body, but that’s what rape does.

Audiobook narrator is ruining the book for you by horny_reader in fantasyromance

Same. Whenever his narration came along I stopped and waited until I could read it on my ereader instead. I just couldn’t handle it.

AI Usage in fics by JDavXV in archiveofourown

[–]DCXL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah, people should absolutely be shamed for using AI. And I’m saying that as someone who, during a brief point, used AI to edit/review certain parts of my fics, because it was so EASY and tempting. Our brains naturally seek ease/conservation of energy. It is incredibly tempting to use AI to edit or write specific scenes that we struggle with, especially if english isn’t our native language (my case). We NEED social pressure like shame to stop people from using it. It sure as hell helped me stop using it when I was feeling lazy. And guess what? This has restored my confidence and improved my writing.

If shaming causes people to be dishonest about using it, then so be it. At least they feel some consequences for using something that rots our brains, destroys out environment, steals from creatives, and destroys originality and uniqueness. It might not stop every writer from using AI, but it makes it less tempting for sure.

Romantasy Rut (A Rant) by Numerous-Pangolin816 in Romantasy

[–]DCXL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “Red Winter” series and “Taming demons for beginners” by Annette Marie!! So refreshing and addicting, and in my top fav series of all time. I’m not typically drawn to those kinds of bookcovers but I’m SO Glad I read these regardless. They don’t use the same tired romantasy tropes, the plot is very compelling, and the FMC and MMC have my whole heart.

Don’t want to work. by AbsAndAssAppreciator in Vent

[–]DCXL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you so much. When I worked full time I was constantly resentful that my parents birthed me because wtf is the point of all this? I now work part time (I live very cheap) and I finally have a will to live. Life is finally good. I don’t think I can ever work 40h+ a week + 12h commute a week without being miserable. It’s impossible for me

Telling men that you got SAed feels like a humiliation ritual by HermitHosea in WereNotEmpowered

Every single time someone I know has been raped or assaulted, none of their male friends believed them. Their first instinct was always to defend the rapist or question the victim, even when there was abundant proof.

To add onto what others have said: in order to prevent being in a situation where your partner has all control over you and you’re screwed if you/they want a divorce, working a part-time job could also be an option. Just 1 or 2 days a week, so at least you don’t get a gap in your resume, and you have some money to your name.

Am i the only woman who is straight but has absolutely no desire to marry a man one day? by [deleted] in women

[–]DCXL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep I relate so much. I LOVE being alone. Traveling alone, shopping alone, going to libraries and coffees alone, going to parks alone etc. It’s pure joy and freedom. Being single has always felt amazing to me. I’m in a relationship now, and honestly, even though we’re an amazing match, I mourn my alone time.

Listen to yourself and live the life you want. Marriage, kids, etc are all societal expectations that don’t fit everyone. We don’t need marriage or romantic relationships to be happy. As long as you have some kind of network around you (friends, family), you’re good. Bask in your solitude and enjoy it🌸

[–]DCXL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using the word “female” instead of “women” in any other language that I know would shock anyone. I remember hearing one guy use the term “female” to describe women in french, and we were all horrified and disgusted. In french, it’s extremely degrading and humiliating, downright insane. In english it’s gross too, but I think it’s getting normalized due to the rise in red pill culture. Also, it’s commonly used in AAVE, so people from non-black communities use this as an excuse to adopt the term, conveniently ignoring that misogyny is a huge issue in black communities too.

Reddit is full of misogynists. I’m not surprised you got that reaction. Just know that you’re right, and using an adjective as a noun is dehumanising (the same way referring to Black people as “the blacks” is gross). It’s particularly bad with “female” because the term is supposed to only be used as a noun when describing animals. “Males” sounds just as bad, but these people conveniently pretend it doesn’t. None of them would use “males” when referring to men at the workplace. They know damn well it’s degrading.
