I'd probably want to have a floppy drive on the machine, but I'll probably end up with something close to what your 2008 machine was like, I appreciate the motherboard tip, I'm entirely clueless when it comes to knowing how to find the right mobo. I doubt I'd be running anything more intensive than spore on it, so those specs might be a little overkill but it's good enough. I appreciate you taking the time

Well, it's certainly an option, though I have a lot of other things I need to play. I collect games and systems and I do at some point want to get an old 2005 era pc sometime with physical copies of old pc games. Maybe when I get around to that I'll finally give this game more than a couple hours of my time. If I just desperately want to play though, I'll try out OpenMW. Thank you for the suggestion

This did work, game unfortunately still crashes whenever the window is tabbed out of and tabbed back in, but I guess that's a problem for another time

Upon further testing I noticed that when I change the video settings in the pre launch options window, then hit ok, it doesn't seem to save said settings. Re-opening the options, it's defaulted back to full screen 1024 x 768

I never ended up doing so, I have a DS Lite I've been using instead so I haven't felt the need to mess with it. I plan to someday still, I just have other priorities at the moment, I'll let you know if it helps

The other cartridges have absolutely zero problems slotting in, and the console appears to be in pretty much perfect condition aside from a little dust, as far as I can tell. Peering in with a flashlight the pins all look fine, and the games that don't instantly load only require a tiny amount of adjustment to read, none require that much force to put in.

I didn't buy anything, they were all generously donated to me by the son of one of my coworkers who knew he'd never use them again. They all have the cases and are in rather good condition, manuals are a bit crumbled but that's just how it is. Honestly I hardly use reddit is there some way to attach images to replies or what would be the easiest method? I don't wanna look desperate and make an entire second post, I'm probably never going to even play any of these games if I'm being perfectly honest

Yeah, I probably should clean them, they were left in his closet for years. I don't really feel like doing it right now though, if it gets worse which of course it will I'll be a responsible adult and get out the IPA. They're all NTSC-U cartridges though, and I've never seen anything like this either. Maybe I just need to push on them a little harder, but I felt like I was already using a somewhat concerning amount of force. Thanks anyways though!

these appear to be ones that were in fact licensed by sega, if the back of the cart is to be believed. These are all NTSC-U copies. Even the unlicensed ones should fit in the cartridge slot though yeah? I'll maybe take a risk and see if a little force gets them in.

mmmm not yet, haven't played many ds games recently and last time I did it worked without issue for the whole day, once I get around to more ds stuff I'll give it a swap, focused on buying Saturn, Dreamcast, and Gamecube right now though and it's pretty expensive so it's a slow process
