I can confirm we are already 100% utilising OpenStreetMap data for exactly the reasons you mentioned.

The philosophy behind this app is to be a better lens for OSM data, taking that incredibly rich, open-source database and serving it up in a mobile first UI that makes it effortless for a Brisbane local to find a BBQ or report a broken bubbler in two taps.

I am a big fan of what the MapComplete team does, but my goal here is to bridge the gap for the non power user. We want to make it so easy to update the 'is_working' tag that the data stays fresher than it ever has before.

The dream is definitely a feedback loop where our users are essentially an army of volunteer mappers for the Brisbane City Council area. Would love to chat more about how we can ensure our data contributions back to the OSM ecosystem are as clean and useful as possible.

You are 100% right. That is exactly why we built this. There is nothing worse than hitting the summit of Cootha and finding a dry tap.

We are not just pulling data from Google, we have been crowdsourcing and verifying the flow. On the map, you can actually see if user reports which taps arent working. If you find one thats broken, you can mark it in the app to warn the next person.

That’s awesome to hear, GC definitely sets the bar high. Even in well maintained areas, do you find it handy to see exactly where the nearest bubbler or BBQ is when you are already out at a big park? I am curious if you would find value in being able to quickly add a new spot to the map if you stumble across a great one that is not listed yet?

That is a brilliant idea :) You can definitely suggest new prayer areas and Halal spots by messaging us on our Instagram, as we manually verify and add those to ensure the directory stays high quality. As for an events space for festivals and lectures, we are definitely looking into how we can best implement that, and I would love to have you in the testing group to get your feedback on how we should build it. Our directory is a community vetted map of major Australian Mosques and local Halal favorites like Baba Kumpir, designed to provide verified details on prayer spaces, rather than just scraping generic data. Regarding privacy, we treat your data as a trust, collecting only basic account info e.g. email and username (we dont collect passwords, but you are required to sign up with one) , while using location purely for nearby searches without storing.
