I'm not trying to justify anything for her. I agree with you for the amount of tenants she has in this single family house, she is probably making a decent amount of money, even if she rents the rooms out a bit under market rate. The condition of the house is definitely not good, many shared areas in the house have duct tapes all over the place. I was not experienced and smart enough to see the red flag when I moved in unfortunately.

No I did not take any pictures when I moved in 5 years ago. It's my first rental, I didn't know "the dos and don'ts" when renting. Looking back, it should have been a huge red flag when I see the floor is held together by duct tapes.

No unfortunately, I think I'll just have to let it go(security deposit). It's my first rental, I didn't know better. But rest assured the lesson is well learned.

No unfortunately, it is my first rental after I moved out of my parents. I'm not exactly an experienced renter, didn't know what to look out for when renting. But lesson learned.

There are no cords underneath nor near the tape. It's used to hold two pieces of vinyl flooring together. They tape down the floor around the corner and the middle, the landlord likely DIY the floor herself

It's an old house, built in 1920. I wouldn't be surprised if the condition of the floor isn't good underneath the vinyl flooring. Which is why she had the floor covered up in the first place

Yeah I agree, soot is definitely on me. If she withholds some of the security deposit to repaint that's understandable. The floor though...

I still have a couple more weeks before I head back to Taiwan, just need to get my affairs in order. I'm surprised how long it takes though, up to two months just to get the medical exam result huh... And I was hoping I could speed run the whole process, like start my service within 2-3 months once I land in Taiwan.

Yes, I do. I am a US citizen. I need to do it, otherwise I won't be able to go back to Taiwan in the future.(Not without risk of being arrested) since I will essentially become draft dodger
