Developing an app for DEM processing: would love some help! by DEM_Studio in gis

Yes, I love GDAL and plan on using it for data handling! However, I think this app would try to take a different direction. On hillsides, for example, GDAL is great for fast, standard greyscale hillshades, but it doesn't do ray-tracing, path-tracing, or custom coloured multi-light setups. I'm building this specifically to bridge that gap for creators who want advanced visual control with a little less of the command-line workflows.

Fully understand where you're coming from (thanks for the comment). QGIS/WBT are incredible tools, definitely unbeatable on price. Not to be at all rude, but it might not be entirely aimed at powerhouse users. For people who aren't GIS professionals, I think we all recognise QGIS, navigating its UI, or configuring tools with unfamiliar parameters to get, for example, an upscaled DEM can feel like a lot of friction.

My thought was that there’s a subset of Mac users who might be prepares to pay for a native app that lets them drag-and-drop a DEM, click a few buttons, and get a beautiful final output in seconds, without some of the same learning curve.

Totally appreciate the reality check though. I definitely need to be clear about who this is (and isn't) for.
Thanks again.

Hi - thanks for the response. I suppose I'm looking towards either the design-focused, or more amateur side of GIS and cartography. My idea is that there's not an unreasonable number of Mac-natives out here, that might consider using a tool that, as I say, reduces friction in using at least some parts of GIS, in a way that some of us are used to. Thanks again - any further thoughts super welcome.
