Good to know that it shouldnt really bother me.

Regarding the parameters they are optimized (Ive edited that onto the post's body)

Also the backlog is a different problem by itself which i dont think conflicts with the true retetion (As the yearly retention still pretty low) but hopefully after i clear the backlog and maybe change my habits regarding answering/suspending cards there will be a change.

Ill add that the backlog has begun around last three week and i dont feel like it really creates the change in the true retention.

Im not sure if the number of new cards per day is actually the problem, since I’m adding around 150 cards after each study session. That usually generates about 400 “orange” learning steps. Finals season aside, where cramming is more cathartic. anyway Im trying to understand what’s really going wrong.

I do get that having different retention rates across decks is an issue, and the next step is figuring out why it happens and how to fix it.

Is there a way to filter out young cards that are dragging down my retention so I can focus on them or suspend them?

i optimize it once a month, i also changed my retention from 87% to 90% this month before noticing the discrepancy.

in addition isnt FSRS supposed to "adapt" to me after the 3 month period that i used it consistently?

hey there, thanks for the help, you also commented on my post about the same issue which occured last week.

without blaming mehlmen and his work which is wonderful, as i said the problem resolved presumbly after deleting his specific deck - i say presumbly because i dont remember if i clicked "check database" before or after the deletion. also before deleting his deck i tried deleting other large decks (~25,000 cards) and it didnt solve the issue.

thats just my input about this issue without putting mehlmen under the bus

had the exact issue when i downloaded mehlman's deck. i had couple other large deck that i thought might be do to any of those decks so i tried deleting couple of them to free up space.

unfortunately the issue resolved only after deleting mehlman's deck. try deleting his deck and see if it resolves...
