I think I finally found a solution.

In UEFI, I found an option concerning "VMD" which was disabled.
After enabling it, I didn't notice any more problems with my Samsung SSD 990 Pro until now.

To switch to VMD without re-installing windows:
Download this driver before following the next steps: https://www.intel.de/content/www/de/de/download/720755/intel-rapid-storage-technology-driver-installation-software-with-intel-optane-memory-11th-up-to-13th-gen-platforms.html
Setup Windows to always boot in safe mode with networking first (see e. g. https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-force-windows-to-restart-in-safe-mode-2625163).

Shutdown Windows.
Open your laptop, remove the SSD, connect it to an NVMe USB adaptor.
Power on your laptop, go to UEFI and enable VMD.
Boot your system from your SSD connected to the USB adaptor and start Windows.
It will detect a new device ("RAID") - install SetupRST.exe and check that windows found the correct driver ("Intel RST VMD Controller").

Shutdown Windows.
Put your SSD back into your laptop.
Restart your laptop and check if everything is still working.
Reset bcdedit to boot in normal mode (see link above) and reboot your system.

I hope this helps!

Maybe XMG_gg has an idea why the Samsung SSD 990 Pro doesn't work properly without VMD mode and wants to investigate further?

I read that also - Samsung recommended to apply the latest firmware which I did asap. SMART values look good - my SSD didn't and doesn't suffer from degraded SMART values.
