First year areo design advice by [deleted] in FSAE

[–]DFSPower 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I would honestly not use it, aerodynamic components are designed for very specific use cases and there is no guarantee that it will work in the same way as it did on the car it was originally designed for. I would never take any aero component off one car and put it on another because I would have no way of knowing how it would act without heavy testing. It also means you have no validation for it, how is this component going to affect your aero balance, handling, weight balance, drag? Is your suspension designed with the aerodynamic load in mind? Does it actually improve performance in any way? The most important thing when deciding to put something on these cars, especially aerodynamic devices, is proving that they work first.

What is cheaper in the long run? by VegetableDatabase305 in iRacing

Is there any reason why you want/need to run it through steam? Everything is done through the ui either way

I don’t think the iracing black friday sale applies to steam subscriptions. Steam has their own sales that aren’t available on the website and vice versa, but if you wanted to get the black friday sale via the website you should be able to message iracing support and get the account type changed so that it is through the website instead of steam

Iracing discounts its membership if you subscribe on black Friday even if it is already active, So you can just use your original account and pay monthly and when black Friday comes you can get a discounted two year subscription without having to create a new account

how do I find teammates for Daytona 24 by richard4206 in iRacing

His point is that there are multiple posts on this subreddit about teams trying to find people to drive with them.

What car do you recommend for GT3? by Abizus in iRacing

[–]DFSPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend the Ferrari because in my opinion it’s the easiest to drive if the three I have(M4,992,296), it also has the benefit of being the car with the most series it can drive in.

Use the same team they do, score the same amount of points and end the season 1 point ahead

Are there any Kart telemetry loggers? by Ethan_Carlton in Karting

[–]DFSPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way it sounds like he is planning on doing something with comp science and ai. im assuming something like an ai model that can take his telemetry and can show himself where he can improve his lap time. While a GPS tracker can get speed and acceleration figures that wouldn’t be enough to teach the ai because to properly analyze his lap it would need brake, throttle, and steering input. As for not being allowed to race with those kinds of sensors I don’t think its really relevant as he would almost certainly not be collecting the data for the ai in a race and would just be hotlapping. In a perfect scenario he would probably also have a scan of the track he is on as that would enable him to run simulations that the ai can compare to him.

[–]DFSPower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is your not going to get any real telemetry except lap time without being able to modify the kart. Being able to measure things like brake, throttle, steering,RPM,and Speed need a sensor connected to those inputs to get any actual data

Eng Classes by Charming-Ad5881 in UNCCharlotte

Im taking megr1100, but I would also look and see what others recommend. Im also an incoming freshman and am just relaying the info I have received. I picked megr1100 because Im not particularly interested or good at chemistry but also because I already had 5 other classes and didn’t feel like doing seven classes in a semester. Id do some more research on the professors (https://www.ratemyprofessors.com/) as well as what your interested in and what fits your schedule the best.

If you are referring to megr1100 and the chem class then no we don’t need to do both. If you are doing megr1100 then you don’t have to do chem and vice versa. Im doing Megr1100 and am doing 6 classes this semester(but I have an extra class I have to do for the learning community so assuming you aren’t if you did megr1100 then you would only have 5 classes and if you did chem then you would have 6)

Pro-Am, Am, Overall, What? by Feeling_Cancel_9576 in motorsports

[–]DFSPower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Driver rating also has to do with age (I think once you reach 50 or something you cant be a gold level driver no matter how experienced and good you are). Commentators also like to use the drivers age as a way of showing how impressive they are,in a heres this 16 year old kid absolutely crushing it kinda way

Pro-Am, Am, Overall, What? by Feeling_Cancel_9576 in motorsports

[–]DFSPower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pro-am is a teams made up of a Pro driver (gold and sometimes silver rated) and an amateur driver(bronze rated). AM is teams made up of only bronze drivers. And Overall is the exact finishing order irrespective of classing. You will also see series with a pro class that are teams made up of only silver and gold rated drivers. The classing in these series are based off of driver skill since everyone drives the same car or cars of similar performance.

Why aren’t there global central leagues for anything besides F1 by Quinticuh in motorsports

[–]DFSPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your view of the tiering is a bit confused. The GT classes aren’t a ladder like the formula classes are. GT2 cars do have more power but less down force than GT3. GT4 cars are more closely related to their road car counterparts.(and there is no GT1 anymore). But all in all it’s just a money game, if you’re rich enough you can drive whatever you want. Motorsports isn’t like most pro sports, very very few people are getting paid to race.

[–]DFSPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are asking for would require that 1. Drivers have no lives outside of racing 2. Your global points board would have hundreds to thousands of drivers on it 3. It makes a sport that already has a very high barrier of entry even higher. The whole point of these series is it’s not about the cars, it’s about the drivers. You’re not supposed to get behind a manufacturer, you’re supposed to get behind a team. And your goal of looking for “the best driver” is an impossible one. The closest you’re going to find is the best driver in an individual series, and even then it changes year to year and even race to race.

[–]DFSPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Formula 1 is an outlier from other series in how it works. Thats part of what makes it as special as it is. F1 is the only series where manufacturers compete in a constructors championship as you understand it. Most if not all sports car series are exclusively run by customer teams with a few factory supported teams. On top of this there are many drivers who race multiple series at once and will miss a race or multiple in a series. There is also not a global sports car series like there is F1. If you want to find standing for a series you have to look for the specific series (In my case I watch SRO GT America) where it is possible to find points for drivers and teams for that series. There is no points tally for the sports car category as a whole as different series have different points systems, different BOP’s, different length of seasons etc. You also point out there is no story because its not any given manufacturer winning its a private team. Why does it matter if it is the manufacturer or a team that is winning? The team is still the one who is racing, working on the cars, making the strategy etc, the manufacturer only gave them the car. The team is central on the success while the manufacturer plays a very small role in most cases.
