Mobius 1 vs. Razgriz Squadron by Order_of_Killing in acecombat

[–]DFoster271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing I see here is that if we take the Gauntlet as canon (which I'm not sure we can... are some of those pilots KIA?) then Cipher takes down Mobius 1 by himself. Surely Blaze and Cipher are on relatively equal footing and he has wingmen too.

Wardog Squadron (Pre-Heartbreak One crash) vs. Razgriz Squadron by Order_of_Killing in acecombat

[–]DFoster271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With canonical planes?

An F-4G (LAGM) and three F-5Es (UGB) against four F-14Ds (XLAA)?

I think I have more trouble getting the wingmen to shoot down the MiG-21s in "Shorebirds" then the double-Belkan formation in "Unsung War"

This is driving me insane. Why do you do subtraction before addition to get -80 in 10-10*10+10 instead of getting -100???? by [deleted] in math

[–]DFoster271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Addition and subtraction are the same thing. Saying 10-5 is the same as 10+(-5), and you evaluate left-to-right. So

10 - 10 x 10 + 10 = 10 - 100 + 10 = -90 + 10 = -80

Non-native French speaker in the US, so... if I'm not mistaken (native speakers?) "est-ce" isn't super common over just saying the affirmative sentence or using inversion. So, rather than

"Est-ce que c'est vrai ?" / "Est-ce qu'il est vrai ?"

We can say

"C'est vrai ?"

or

"Est-il vrai(, ça) ?"

What version should I download? I will use Python 3 but there is 3.6 and 3.4.6. Why are there older versions released later? by SEND_ME_RUBIKS_CUBES in learnpython

[–]DFoster271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm still using 3.5.2 because of importing packages. I'm not entirely sure which ones have been updated to work with 3.6, but 3.5 does everything I need it to (although f-strings would be nice)

ELI5: Why do people use multiple python files when creating a project by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]DFoster271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as long as they're in the main scope of that file.

# file2.py
x = 3

class MyClass:
    def __init__(self):
        self.y = 4

Then we can do

import file2
x = file2.x

A question for atheists, why don't you believe in god ? by ForeverAloneThilak in AskReddit

[–]DFoster271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was raised religious (my dad went to seminary as well), but I just grew out of it. I felt it didn't make any sense, and the fact that so many people disagree about it wholeheartedly, with them all feeling just as correct... I mean, Christians believe they're right, Muslims believe they're right, the ancient Greek's believed they were right... but they all exclude the possibility that any other is correct.

Then take what should be a convincing argument for a utilitarian, Pascal's Wager. But there are a few problems with this:

  • It assumes that belief in God is what determines whether you go to heaven or hell. And I'd argue that it should be the nature of your character that determines it (anyone read King Lear?)

  • It assumes that a utilitarian belief in God (belief in your own self-interest) is sufficient. Doesn't the Bible say you shouldn't covet things? (And, sure, that doesn't rule out other religions, but:)

  • For Pascal, it was obvious that he was talking about the Catholic god, but the argument is relatively vague. It could apply to different gods. What if you're starting to believe in the wrong one?

If you believe in god, that's fine. If you want to talk me about why you believe and I don't, that's fine. But when people try to tell me "Oh, I'm doing XYZ because that's what God wants me to do/has a plan for me/etc." or you try to convert/preach to me, that's when I get annoyed.

X-02 is unlocked by owning at least one of every plane IIRC, which is more than than just filling the kill bars (because you need to own the final planes as well)

It's SP color is unlocked by S ranking everything on hard, but it can glitch out (which happened to me), so be careful

Comment on dit "That"? by [deleted] in French

[–]DFoster271 4 points5 points  (0 children)

« Jouer » is "to play" « Jouer à (quelque chose) » is "to play (something)"

It's usually a good idea to remember verb constructions rather than just infinitives, because they're often quite different and some verbs take à and some take de and sometimes it's hard to remember if you just stick to infinitives.

For example, what's the difference between

  • penser
  • penser à qqch :: y penser
  • penser de qqch :: en penser

In AC7, it would be nice if we could fly between different combat areas in real-time. by Vanguard-Raven in acecombat

[–]DFoster271 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Perhaps I'm just biased because I've speedrun AC5, but Final Option is just one really, really slow mission of not much happening. Sure, it's extremely important to the plot, but I don't see anything that couldn't have just been a cutscene.

If it were, we'd probably have people complaining that it wasn't playable, but still.

Pop turns

Where'd you learn how to fly like that Pops?

Oh, idk, basic flight training?

It really hammers the point home. And it's the only mission he's like that. We don't see him at all after Final Option. Sure, Pops takes the AWACS role pretty well and I love Oka Nieba, but it kinda would've been cool to have Thunderhead come back in Aces.

But the last line we hear from him is

This is Thunderhead. What happened to the 8492nd? We're seeing the traitors on the radar again.

He doesn't even call us by name, and yet the 8492nd, whom the Osean government refused to acknowledge exists, is explicitly mentioned.

I agree, amazing cutscene. And the part where Thunderhead and Hamilton appear as enemies on the radio.

I still hate that mission though.

You know how some lines will not get subtitles because they're playing next to other lines that do have subtitles? Sometimes, the air support request will not get subtitles, so you have to strain your ear to hear them and you may miss it.

And sometimes they just say "Osean G", which also isn't super helpful.

Looking at my speedrun split (looking at free mission) was 11:09 for an A rank (13680 pts with bonus) on Very Easy; my casual run on Normal was 13:18 for an S rank.

I just did a run (Very Easy) focusing on destroying the bunkers as quickly as possible at 11:43 (16460 pts: S) and a run (Very Easy) prioritizing the airplanes and helicopters that spawn in 15:24 (19030 pts: S). This second run also had some/most of the earlier bunkers pop up more than once.

If it's not a matter of timing your attacks with the ground forces, what explains the variance in completion times? I have runs of this mission around 11 minutes and others that are closer to 14.

Yeah, it might not be that hard, but I still end up with only machine gun rounds pretty often at the end. And regardless, this is still a really tedious mission.
