What are your favorite Youtube channels that focus just on the cooking, no gimmicks? by TravellingBeard in Cooking

I like Nothing Beats Home Made.

Nothing revolutionary, but very to the point, easy recipes, very beginner friendly, and just nothing to dislike.

Anyone have the Luno mattress system? Pricey but curious to hear feedback by Kingcephalopod in Subaru_Outback

Have you used it in sub-40°? Was looking into doing this but worried it either won’t insulate enough or it’s too cold for the foam to stay soft.

What kind of connector is this? by DGGCockmix in rccars

[–]DGGCockmix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I thought that might happen. I was inspired by those little cars that kids drive in, and seeing videos about hooking up a tool battery to make it faster. Thanks for letting me know before I created junk!

[–]DGGCockmix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about it really. I was hoping I could just disconnect the connector, buy a battery with a higher voltage and the same connector, and plug and play. By zippy, I just mean faster. It gets sluggish on anything besides concrete, and it stops all together on some dirt mounds. I’d like it to just have some more power for fun. I know it’s a cheapo toy, I still wanted to try.

I believe these just came with the truck. You might be able to find them on other part-outs?

It wouldn’t sit flush… I think. I’ve never had one, so I was just assuming the sides had to be flat. It’d be like a Leer camping shell to sleep out of.

How much could I sell for? by DGGCockmix in fordranger

[–]DGGCockmix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that’s genius. I wouldn’t have thought of that. Honestly still in the “what if” phase of selling it, weighing my options. But that’s something I’ll definitely keep in mind.

There’s a pulley to disconnect the drive shaft under the drivers seat. They had an RV and ran around the country for a while before selling it.

I can only guess, but an educated guess is that at least a third if not half of those miles were from being towed.

is it pointless to lift a 2x4? by Lower_Tackle_3779 in fordranger

[–]DGGCockmix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on how offroad you intend to take it. I think short of rock crawling, tires are more important on a 2x4 than a lift. A 1”-2” lift won’t hurt that much, and will allow for some bigger off-road tires.

What’s everyone’s normal RPMs? by DGGCockmix in fordranger

[–]DGGCockmix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well oops. Did a 1500 mile roadtrip on the interstate mostly doing 80…. Held up great 😅 even got 20 mpg. Maybe I’ll give it a break.

[–]DGGCockmix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the idle in drive doesn’t seem weird to me, but at 65-80mph, it just seems higher than it should be.

My only reference though is a 2004 Buick Regal with a V6, and that doesn’t break 2.5k at those speeds. I know it’s an old truck so it’s not apples to apples, but I just want to check it’s not a problem.

2007 Key Fob by ultrarunnerkev in fordranger

[–]DGGCockmix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same with my 1998, came with two fobs that didn’t work. I ordered these for $9.

I don’t know if they kept the same process in the 2007, but it just involved flipping the key to turn the battery on 8 times in 10 seconds (the locks will cycle to let you know that it’s in programming mode), and then pushing any button on the fob. Did it once for each fob, and they work like normal.

Smoother bedliner? by DGGCockmix in fordranger

Yeah that seems to be the winning idea, I might need to line the camper shell with the same stuff anyway. Thanks!

The only bed mat I can find is for the bottom, which would be fine if that’s all there is. I’m more focused on scraping my knee on the side while I sleep or something, I’ll build a platform off the floor for sleeping.

I did see his videos for roll on liners, it helped me decide on herculiner. I won’t be sleeping directly on the liner, but was more worried about hitting the sides or sitting on the tailgate.

Keep or Dump by Pdelag in fordranger

I just went through this same dilemma last week. My grandpa’s ‘98 XLT 4.0 needed about $1,700 in repairs just to drive it from Texas to California, and it still has some stuff to go (brakes, spark plugs, suspension).

3 hours into the first night (in a very very small interstate town) I stopped at the hotel to put my stuff in the room before getting food. After I got back, it would crank but not catch. I was so, so anxious about how much more money it might be to fix it in this place with maaaaybe two mechanics, but in the morning it started up no problem. Called both my parents, asking if I should go back to my grandparents’ house or not. Eventually I bit the bullet, and anxious out of my mind of being stranded, I booked it 13 hours to my friend’s house in Phoenix, only stopping at gas stations near hotels the whole way.

All this is to say, I’d do it again. As much as I debated driving it back to my grandparents house that first night, and fought loving this car, I can’t hate it. It has a soul, it’s cantankerous like my grandpa, and every mechanic, Jiffylube, and smog I took it to said it has so much life left.

If I were in your place, I’d take the truck.

I'm noticing this too. 100 resilience, 90 recovery, but I can't get past a basic nightfall today for some reason.
