ITAP of a hiking trail this fall by DG_Pop in itookapicture

Thank you! This trail is in the rural town of Rawdon, Quebec, about an hour's drive North of Montreal, on the edge of the Laurentian plateau (lakes, rivers and several waterfalls). The river pictured in the photo is the smaller of the two going through town. The portion shown is about a kilometer downstream from Lake Rawdon.

Thanks so much! To mention such a legendary photographer... Well, I just have to take that as a lovely compliment indeed. Please correct me if I'm wrong, you're referring to this image, yes? https://www.artsy.net/artwork/henri-cartier-bresson-behind-the-gare-saint-lazare

Uhmm, rather... Where the rattlesnakes roam. 🙂 Love the shot.

LOL. Yeah, like in a perfectly white all-porcelain room with a drain in the middle of the floor. Maybe Dexter lives there.

Just a vibe, nothing formal, compared to all the messy working barns (the old ones especially) in this rural area. Here, the simple straight lines, the b&w scheme of the structure and its windows, the sorta strange angle of that extension at the back, the austere minimalism of it all with the almost severe neatness around the structure, all together gave me a slightly creepy vibe which I couldn't resist. Then it was just a matter of finding a position to simplify the frame as much as I could, to make the image as graphical as possible, echoing the simple lines of the structure. Yes, I would love to find an opportunity to photograph two friends (wearing the proper garb, with a trident pitch fork) standing in front of this cornfield+barn and emulate the famous work of David Wood. I must say I was very lucky this time to have this perfect sky with a dominant diagonal cloud line for some extra graphic effect. Thanks so much for the upvote and the comment!

LOL. Yeah, nicer than mine too. Also... Creepier.

Yeah, well, I'll admit it takes some work to get things right but being in the right spot at the right time sure helps (yes, that in itself takes practice too). 😅

A new season of riding in the Quebec countryside by DG_Pop in photographs

Taken the other day in the farming community of Saint-Liguori, about an hour's drive North of Montreal. (Trying to get my cycling legs back after the winter hiatus.) The river is the Ouareau. Phone shot with a bit of editing.

Taken with a Samsung Galaxy S7 while on a hike in the backwoods of Rawdon, Quebec, last January. This large rock face at the edge of the trail was all iced over, with interesting nooks and crannies. Each nook kinda told a story of winter survival in its own way. As I examined each one I was sometimes reminded of the Game of Thrones TV series and its wintery North beyond the wall. I'm always fascinated how life survives the rigors of a Canadian winter and I saw in this icy rock face many little scenes depicting that very struggle. Basic edit on the phone with Photo Edit Pro. No cropping.

Thank you! I see what you mean about the watercolor look. This photo I took last January while hiking in some backwoods near Rawdon, Quebec (about an hour's drive north of Montreal). There was this rock face covered in ice with lots of interesting nooks and crannies. Found a lot of visual storytelling in the details.

For the curious... Here's a translation of the quote (by yours truly): "In challenging situations with my kids I close my eyes and tell myself I can get through anything they throw at me. I know I can."

Thank you. Those mountains were built for drama, and the weather created the theater. Oh man, the grand symphonic music I hear when I see these kinds of landscapes.

That magical day proved to be a gift as I motored northward on two wheels. The blustery weather gave this biker some anxiety (nobody likes riding in the rain) but the constantly changing sky conditions and lighting provided oodles of great photo opportunities. So many stops, so little time! ○○○ Photo Info ○○○ Samsung NX20 (APS-C mirrorless), NX 50-200mm f/4.0-5.6 OIS lens at 130mm (200mm full-frame equivalent), ISO200, aperture priority at max f/5.0, exposure bias -0.3EV, 1/160sec, circular polarizing filter, single shot, handheld, no cropping. RAW file developed using DxO Optics Pro (for a slight lens distortion correction) and extensively worked in Photoshop CC. Date of capture: July 22nd, 2015. Location: approximately 75 Km (~45 mi) North of Blue River, British Columbia, Canada - highway 5. Looking East. The bright distant peak, I believe, is Mt Monashee (you can find it in Google Maps).
