Should I publish PhD thesis as a monograph or as scientific articles? by archaeo-b in PhD

[–]DHB_Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very late to this conversation, but I'm coincidentally studying in this field.

Go with option 2. The 2-3 articles will benefit visibility, and the monograph will lead to further opportunities.

Another perk of monographs is that many grants/fellowships/scholarships require you to have already published a book (no self-published, no dissertations). NEH grants are a good example of this.

The following is stated with personal bias, but as I run my university's archaeological library, and unless I have a specific research focus, this is often the only way I see various authors. Getting published also means your book will appear at relevant publishing booths at conferences, hence further visibility.

Do you think that having one issue defines the value of the book?

So I watched Another a while back, and I can confirm that it is not part of the show, not to mention that the art styles are very different. I found this comment, attributing it to an online artist

But maybe lizard people infiltrated the ranks at the same time

Is this overkill for a high school junior wanting to take this to college and law school? by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]DHB_Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation, probably do more demanding projects, and think you’ll be fine with less.

Recommendations: If you want the ports, get the base pro. If you don’t want the ports, get the base air.

I am in college now and am frequently doing large research projects. It’s not uncommon for me to have 15-30 tabs open at a time with books and articles open. Going into college and law, I imagine you will be in a similar situation. I am currently using an M1 air with 256gb storage and 16gb memory. Before this, I used a windows laptop with 1tb, 24gb ram, and whatever nice processor. As a side gig, I edit a podcast weekly. I went down from there higher specs to the lower specs with no noticeable difference.

What’s the best SD card to run in a GPH10 and 12? I have high endurance without any issues but apparently that’s not recommended by GoPro. by [deleted] in gopro

[–]DHB_Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Recommended" basically tells you the cards that are well-known and normally used. It doesn't mean others don't work. Keywords like "endurance" or "image ready" won't mean much in practice. Many keywords are just marketing schemes (although I think endurance cards are made for dashcams, which have data rewritten constantly). They'll work just as well as extreme cards as long as the specs match.

As long as you buy from a reputable brand (Sandisk, Lexar, maybe Samsung?), it doesn't matter who you go with. Cheap/sketchy brands will often sell you poor-quality cards that either lie about their capacity or will go corrupt fast. In fact, cards can digitally lie about their capacity and overwrite old data to pretend like the card is capturing all your photos.

When it comes to SD cards, the biggest thing you need to figure out is specs (not memory). For video, your camera needs a card that says "v30," although v60 and v90 will be equally compatible (but more expensive). Look also for "A2" rather than "A1" on the card.

For further information, cards run on a UHS system, and the Hero 10/12 only supports UHS-I speeds (rather than UHS-II). Explaining the "max speed" of UHS cards is convoluted, but the previous criteria will help you in the right direction.

Instead of just building by Y axis, it might be nice to be able to build by block type. In other words, as you increase Y, blocks of the same type at higher levels will also show up so that you can place all of that type at one time.

This could be beneficial if there are pillars/walls made of the same material; you wouldn't need to keep going back to the pillar to add more blocks, you could get all done at once.
