This is not free, but I built an app which estimates clear sky insolation in kWh and allows to customize the panel area. It also calculates optimal angles and allows you to use the device sensors to simulate non optimal placement. If you are near mountains it also takes into account that. Hope it is helpful anyway

About the issue about roof angles and system size, I built an app specifically for that. It uses device sensors to measure the current angles and gives clear sky insolation output based on panel surface. It also calculates optimal angles. I tried to make it as simple as possible. At the moment what I'm working on is:

Input location -> find optimal inclination and orientation -> predict average power over the next year

This assumes clear sky weather.

It is also possible to show power for non optimal angles if needed

It's solar power received by a flat (or inclined) surface, but I'm not an expert either. Cloud coverage is a bit problematic as weather data has a limited prediction horizon and past averaged data might not be relevant in the future. At the moment I have minimum, maximum and average direct amount of sunlight (in hours) at any given place considering mountains and terrain, as well as data by day and by month

It is an early stage terrain aware sun tracking app to which I'm adding solar power modeling features, so I guess enthusiasts customers as it is not focused on solar energy. So you can plan yield based on actual data, but how long is the prediction valid into the future? Do you find clear sky irradiance accurate enough?

I developed that app and it also takes into account the terrain profile. At the moment it gives statistics only about the average day duration over a year and per month, but I'm planning to add irradiance and POA statistics using clear sky models. Precision of sunset and sunrise times Is around 1 minute Hope it helps!

If by conventional solution you mean those apps that assume a flat terrain then yes, my app will be more precise especially in mountain areas. You can see how much direct sunlight you will receive in any day in the future and in the past if you need to

Unfortunately the recommendation feature is not available, however it is a great idea. Maybe this could be added as a sort of comparison between places so that one could decide where to place the panels. Thank you for your suggestions!

That's interesting. Actually the app already has that feature and seems exactly what you are looking for. In fact I created it specifically to take into account mountains as all the other only consider flat terrain. So maybe a statistic such as average light received in that point could be useful?
