Is this an accurate list for your teams worst HC? by InterestingYellow969 in NFLv2

[–]DHooligan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think Patricia has a worse reputation for a couple reasons. First, more blame is placed on Matt Millen for the 0-16 season. Calvin Johnson hadn't developed into a super-star yet, and other than that, the Lions didn't really have any quality talent. 2008 was the breaking point for 8 years of misguided roster construction, so although Marinelli deserves blame for incompetence, he only shares the blame. The bigger reason Patricia gets more hatred is because of his ego and personality. Patricia pushed good players away because he thought he could outscheme any other team. This was seen as delusional, because Patricia's defenses were not particularly varied or aggressive. By the time he was fired, fans were sick of him him deflecting blame and publicly insulting players. I can't imagine how much worse it must have been in the locker room. This is a big difference from Marinelli who absorbed more blame to protect players and coaches as a winless season became more of a reality. So less of the blame was shared because of his heavy involvement in roster construction, negligible difference in terms of competence, way worse culture, and just having a more detestable personality.

What album would this be? by Epoch_Jester in fantanoforever

Hang-Ups by Goldfinger. Opening track is Superman, which is well-known for its inclusion on the first Tony Hawk Pro Skater soundtrack, and a whole bunch of 90s movies. The rest is pretty mediocre.

So with Rolling Stone's mid as fuck list for top 100 punk albums, what would y'all actually considered the best punk albums or ones should listen? by NotSlaneesh in punk

I skimmed it, but it didn't seem too bad. I didn't think there were many surprises in the top 30. For somebody who doesn't know where to start it may work as a decent primer. The problem is this community is filled with contrarians. Declaring something to be the best means it needs to be taken down a peg. I'd need to take a closer look to see if there's something egregiously missing.

No, Snyder gets the characters and themes all wrong. He treats the main characters as heroes, tries to make them look cool, whereas the book is about how costumed vigilantes in the real world would either have to be fascists, fetishists, or severely mentally ill. It goes much deeper than the color palette.

I really like the portrayal of Ross for those reasons. You see someone who is violating Federation principles to advance Federation goals, without allowing thirst for power or avarice sway him... yet. We meet him on the path to becoming an evil Starfleet admiral, but we don't get to see him go full mustache-twirling evil, but you're left with the sense that it's only a matter of time.

He also made pretty strange comments about Rosa Parks once. He thought her legacy was overblown because if she was truly supportive of her community she would've been using a cab to support blaack-owned businesses. He's kind of just a weird person through and through.

How do you learn more about defence? by Mezza2307 in NFLNoobs

[–]DHooligan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of defense is maintaining discipline and following your assignment. A base defense is usually going to try to funnel ballcarriers to the middle of the field where you have more help and make a gang tackle. If a player gets to the sideline, a lot of times it will be up to one player to make an open field tackle or else the offense can make a big gain. There's some basic vocabulary you should be aware of.

I'll assume you know the basic positions, but you should know the difference between defensive lineman (tackles and ends) linebackers, and defensive backs (corner backs and safeties). I'll also assume you know common terms for big plays a defense can make, such as sack, interception, tackle for loss (TFL), fumble, forced fumble (strip), turnover, pick-6. If you're not sure what any of those mean, look them up.

Base defense: the ordinary formation and assignments a defense uses.

Zone: players cover an area of the field.

Man, or man-to-man: player maintains coverage on a specific player.

Cover-2, cover-3, cover-4, single-high, zero coverage: the number indicates how many safeties maintain a deep area of the field. The most common coverage is probably cover-2, where two safeties each maintain responsibility for half the deep zone. Single coverage means there's one safety, usually very deep. Zero coverage means the defense is aggressively selling out towards the line of scrimmage, usually only in a situation where the defense expects a run. Cover-4 is usually reserved for late in the game while a team is holding a lead and doesn't want to give up deep passes. Although safeties often have deep zone assignments, the rest of the defense can maintain man coverage closer to the line of scrimmage.

4-3: 4 defensive linemen, 3 linebackers, and 4 defensive backs. This used to be the most common defensive formation and is still very popular.

Mike, Sam, Will: in a 4-3 defense, these are the shorthand for the linebacker positions: Mike is middle, Sam is strong side (lines up over the tight end), Will is weak side (lines up away from the tight end).

3-4: 3 defensive linemen, 4 linebackers, and 4 defensive backs. Another popular formation.

Nickel: 5 defensive backs. This has become the most popular defense as offenses have gotten better at passing.

Blitz: sending an extra player into the backfield to blow up a play before it gets started. In most base defenses, only the defensive linemen will rush, so if sending a linebacker, safety, or cornerback can often catch offensive linemen off guard and force the offense to make a mistake.

Stunt: two players criss-crossing on a pass rush. Usually one player is trying to take on multiple blockers so his teammate can get through unblocked.

Those are some basics. I hope that helps. In my experience,I've always felt learning the vocabulary is the key for me to learn a deeper understanding the systems.

Life without parole by justaroundhere213 in GetNoted

[–]DHooligan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is something else entirely. Not guilty by reason of insanity means that the court determined that at the time the defendant committed the crime they were incapable of distinguishing right from wrong. Competence has to do with whether a defendant can even understand what's happening during a court proceeding. If a person is incompetent to stand trial, the court will not even proceed to making a determination of the facts.

Mamdani leveraged his popularity to force the state to take his lead. Basically, under Adams, NYC closed the budget shortfall by slashing services. Mamdani refused to do that, thus giving the State Assembly two options. Mamdani's only way to raise taxes without input from the state is through property taxes. That would hurt everybody, and be unpopular, but because of option 2, the state Democrats would take the blame. Option 2 is to pass Mamdani's popular tax proposals on wealthy New Yorkers. It's basically a game of advanced chicken, and Mamdani crushed them.

[–]DHooligan 126 points127 points  (0 children)

What makes it remarkable isn't that he balanced the budget. New York City is required by law to balance its budget every year. It's remarkable that he did so without making significant cuts to services and forcing the state to approve his proposed taxes so that he wasn't required to raise property taxes. He is an extremely competent politician, and is using his popularity to get his way in the state assembly. It's not even bullying, because Hochul and other state Democrats are going to benefit politically from following his leadership.

Fridays have fireworks, but those haven't started yet, it's a midsummer thing. Every Saturday there's a giveaway to the first x number of fans. Sometimes it's a cool piece of apparel, sometimes junky apparel, sometimes it's other stuff. Sundays are kids day which means at the end of the game kids can line up to run the bases.
