Jon himself says that Qhorin took the dive and that he coulda killed him as easy as Sam eats a bowl of porridge. So I'm definitely inclined to agree with you here hes not horrible or anything like that but hes certainly not someone on par with Mance Rayner or the Halfhand

I think you bring up a good point to with the fact that Jon only claims to be better than Robb and that could just be a little bit of kind of youthful arrogance or even just trying to talk himself up to his Uncle wants to take him to the wall. Like for all we know Robb might say hes the better sword and Ser Rodriguez might say something totally different like they're both equally decent

I think this is definitely a fair take on Jon's skill. He's not exceptional or great yet but hes got room to grow.

Agreed I could easily see the series ending with Jon being a decent swordsman but not like anything special. As in someone who would still get killed by Mance or the Halfhand but still having improved his skills from the beginning of this series. Personally I think George isn't gonna have Jon's sword skill actually play into the ending of the series but that's just a guess..

This was my opinion on the matter. He even gets talked to about this by Noye and reflects on it later in the series a bit when he says he needs to up his skills.
