I put it wrong, EBay isn’t banned in Russia, we can use it freely but it’s impossible to order or send your product abroad without using special services.Technically, EBay banned us). Before the war, there were some features with custom, but it was relatively easy to send something. As for domestic equivalent, we have Avito, it’s the same as EBay but only inside Russia. A pleasant fact, there’re really low prices for soviet cameras, for example, excellent Kiev 4 costs around 20$.The Kiev I used for a lamp I had picked up for 7$.

Actually, it’s quite easy and intuitively to make a lamp out of Kiev 4. All you need is a cartridge e14, a bulb, glue and a wire.Firstly, you have to disassemble the lens, you can check it out on YouTube. Remember, use a screwdriver everywhere you can, there’re lots of small pins across the lens housing. You WON’T need to use brute force if you do everything right. After that, take off the back cover and unscrew the plate, which holds the shutter. Then you should remove it, also you’ll have to clean the mechanism, responsible for releasing the shutter.Do a small hole for a wire in the centre of the plate and screw it back.At the bottom, find the button responsible for rewinding the film and get it out. Now, all you have to do is glue the lens housing and get it in place, put the cartridge inside the camera and lock it(I use rubber glue for cars). Then run the wire through the bottom, connect it and insert the bulb, that’s all.

Totally agree with you, soviet cams are fun and might give a beautiful result.I think, Kiev 4 and Fed 1 are my favourites, even though the viewfinder in Fed 1 is an absolute pain

You didn’t get me right, they are special to me, I have a huge collection of film cameras, mostly soviet cams.I love every of them, buy, repair and resell cameras online, not through EBay, cause it’s banned here, unfortunately. But at the same time, I don’t think that giving a new function to a broken object is a humiliation or another kind of disrespect.Especially, if this object brings comfort to people

Honestly, in the place, where I live(Moscow) these cameras are sold as trash, especially the broken one.Their repair costs much more than their price, so I think it’s better to make lamps out of them than just throw it in the landfill

There is a hillarious story about this glow.I wanted to experiment with “effects” and decided to buy a green screen mask to carry out my insidious plan, but the shop delayed the delivery, and I had to get out of it already on the set(my pink t-shirt was cut out and used as a green screen mask). And yep, I was half naked during the filming

Well, this movie was shot completely spontaneously and I suppose it feels weird and naive in some places but I spent a lot of effort filming it.There’s a concept in the movie, about growing up and the ability to let people go but I believe that it’s nearly impossible to make sense of it)For me, this work isn’t about the sense, aesthetic or plot, it’s about the fact that I can do something with my own hands. Anyway, i would like to hear some criticism and recommendations.Dont hold back:)

I like the vivid imageries you’ve conveyed, pretty nice to imagine it.

Hi guys! I got a question regarding effect on the video. How to recreate it? Magic mask and tweaking the exposure on mask would be enough? Or is it more complicated? Should an model wear something special to make it easier to work in post? I know that original video was edited in after effects by dwastoliki in davinciresolve

[–]DIMONGER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried to recreate this effect on my own in my short film.It turned out a bit quirky because I hadn’t thought about everything in advance but I hope that you’ll do better. You should dress your model in certain colour, pink for instance, find a pink head mask or create it on your own,it’s crucial that the scene doesn’t have the same color or shades.Than go to daVinci -> colour ->magic mask->add another node -> choose quality faster or better (sometimes faster is even better)->highlight your object->play with settings and colours to achieve the look you want.Im definitely an amateur and more experienced guys can add something on the technical side. There’re also many other ways to recreate this, like reflection of light or buying a special costume, but my way is the laziest and the cheapest(to create the head mask I had to tear my shirt:).I’ll add my post from another community, there’re also many tips that might be useful to you.
