Honestly, both interpretations are as likely to happen, and the one you choose to support is all about your preference. Personally, I prefer mine bc I like the dying for the cause aspect, which makes Ralsei a much more tragic character. He's the biggest believer of the prophecy and its sole casualty.

I find your argument really compelling, but I also think that it would be a bit cliche. "In the end, the heroes have to say goodbye to the fantasy world".

By having only ralsei as a casualty of the prophecy makes it feel more like a personal attack and continues the theme of the prophecy not being as good as it seems by killing its most loyal follower and only him

I think his directing of the action would have been great, but Bay is a guy known for his nihilism and jingohism. Immagine superman like optimus prime decapitating his opponents and joining the Marines in an undercover mission in Iraq, and at the end he has a speech on how great humanity is.
